Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Thanks. When you created a new line, did Verizon treat it as Bring Your Own Device? Any push back from store staff when you request to cancel the line again?
I did not get any push back at any point of time while re-activating it. They did took it as Bring Your own Device and gave some discount. On asking why it is BYOD, she mentioned since I bought it from Walmart. But in the end they were able to activate with their line and it was working fine. I called and messages from the same number-device before closing it.

Is the new Verizon number different from the first number disconnected before you received the device or the same? Thanks.

Hi, Did your unlocked phone started showing in att portal and calls / text registered ? Only then per the wiki you have to submit unlock request. Can you confirm what error / msg you get while submitting imei for unlock ?
I bought the phone from Walmart store so AT&T was activated at the store and I was able to make calls. Then I paid it off and then ported the eSIM to another unlocked phone. I was able to make calls using the older unlocked iPhone.

When I try to submit it as non-AT&T number (I submit the IMEI #) it shows the error "Looks like the IMEI # you entered doesn't match an AT&T device. please check your IMEI …". I tried with both IMEI #s
If I submit it as a AT&T customer (where I have to submit the phone #) I get the message "We're sorry, but we can't unlock your device yet. Submit a new unlock request after your service has been active for at least 60 days".

I need to cancel my phone line today else I will be on $50/month plan which is ridiculous. I hope I will not be charged for the phone line since today is the 3rd day.

Different as they were unable to reactivate the old number.

What is the purpose of this following step(s)?
---------------
How to update Apple purchase date ***
From your Verizon online account, go to Account, Bill, Documents & receipts
Download the Customer Agreement PDF that has the service agreement and IMEI (shown as Device ID), and barcodes
Go to https://checkcoverage.apple.com
Enter serial number
If it says no purchase date found, continue to create a case and request a call back
Upload the PDF
After the call back they said it could take up to 5 days for the date to be reflected
I checked the serial after 5 minutes and it was updated
----------------
Thanks!!

I purchased two VZ iPhones on the same day with different two account on 11/12/24, but their delivery dates were different. The first iPhone was paid off on 11/18/24, and the second iPhone was paid off on 11/19/24. However, the payment transaction for the first iPhone is still pending, even though the transaction for the second iPhone has already cleared. Are there others like me? I'm feeling a bit worried.

In the same boat after finally getting the esim to transfer over to the unlocked phone. Ultimately I may just wait the 60 days instead of hitting the unlock attempt limits or esim installs. Gets tiring having to either call and swap imeis or the store for the QR code

Also, double check when you call about the plan charge. When I called I was told ATT does not prorate the plan but if cancelled within 3 days the activation fee is waived. Be careful

Just to clarify.. these steps are in the Wiki summary. What is the meaning of "If it says no purchase date found, continue to create a case and request a call back Upload the PDF"??

Does this mean, I have create a support ticket with Apple? Don't understand why.

Appreciate if someone clarifies this step!

How is the payment pending? Did the automated voice system tell you that? I assume you checked with your bank it wasn't held up due to a fraud alert? Does it show paid off in your account?

Yes you open a ticket to have them update the purchase date so that it shows an active warranty

Today is the 3rd so I'm going to cancel and deal with the unlock issue after 60 days. I don't want to pay >$50/month for the next 2 months.

when I called the customer service the representative gave me both postpaid and prepaid options with new number of verizon to activate the phone(tied to Verizon). Since I did not want to pay the whole amount, I chose post paid(to prorate later if I needed). But to answer your question, it looks like there is an option.

this is so that the 1 year warranty can start on your purchase date because it seems that the warranty is expired since these have been sitting somewhere for around 2 years now

have you done this already?
I just submitted a receipt on an older device that I purchased this year. I submitted the receipt but the rep scheduled a call back for someone to call me this evening
