Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

I'm using the new phone now with T-Mobile! I thought I was screwed because I cancelled the Verizon line before even receiving the phone. But it works! I don't care if it's locked to T-Mobile now as long as I can use it.

I disconnected my verizon line before receiving the phone. Activated the device on Mint mobile and have been using the phone since then. I checked BYOD eligibility on T Mobile and Verizon websites and they say the device is compatible. Does it mean it's an unlocked phone even though carrier lock shows as locked in the settings?

So if you cancelled the line without first activating the phone, it won't unlock in 60 days??

It works for Xfinity. I disconnected VZ line and remove the esim. Then, I converted my Xfinity physical sim to the esim on my current phone, then transferred the esim from my current to my new phone.
There are 2 esim, why do you remove the VZ esim, can you just add the xfinity esim to the 2nd spot?

how did you transfer the esim of old phone to the 14?
You can go setting >> cellular >> add eSIM on the new phone and follow the instructions. It is a fairly easy process unless something goes wrong.

Sure, you can do that. I just removed it, because it is disconnected and not working at all.

Was able to get an AT&T unlock today. Cancelled verizon before receiving the phone. Used h20 esim to activate, transfered esim to unlocked phone, and then put in new phone IMEI in unlock portal. Works just like it did last year with physical sims. YMMV
For my knowledge, how did you transfer the eSIM? Was it to an iPhone or Android?

My att phone yet to be shipped, but looks like line activated, I am thinking of doing the same else att will definitely charge me activation plus 60$ (they dont prorate).
Their buyers remorse policy is to prorate the charges from https://www.att.com/wireless/return-policy/

"Service Cancellations within 14 Days. You may call us at 800-331-0500 to cancel wireless service. You are responsible for all applicable fees, prorated access charges, taxes, surcharges, or other charges through the termination date. AT&T will refund your activation fee, if any, if service is terminated within 3 days of activation. The charges for service used on the account before the service termination date may be applied against any down payment."

Got AT&T phone in the mail today. Called to cancel service and pay off phone. They said the phone was activated on the date it shipped. I said that's impossible. I just got it today. After some wrangling and providing the Fedex tracking number I was able to get the activation fee waived (cancel within 3 days of activation). Was also able to get the phone paid off without much trouble.

The bad part, which I should have been able to figure out beforehand, is that ATT refuses to prorate cancellations. Somehow the A-holes started my service plan on the 14th (ship date) billed me for the 14th-15th of November and then a full month from November 15th to December 15th, the next billing period. They have so far refused to prorate any amount or adjust the bill based on the date of the phone's receipt. To add insult to injury, I somehow ended up on a $100/month plan. Not sure how that happened. Will be in this phone for a fair amount more than expected.

If these phones are flex locked meaning they will lock to the first esim transferred to them, does that mean the new carrier now controls the unlocking? Since they would see no device payment needed on the phone they will all unlock without pushback no? I'm a little confused on which company owns the lock on the device.
Yeah but ATT and VZW are the big ones and all other MVNOs are using their network so you will have to go by their policy which 60 days wait (unless you can successfully do SIM swap for ATT or an MVNO using ATT like H2O that people are doing here)

So just wait for the email for the final bill and pay it off right?
How should i get to know the next cycle?
As long as you've already paid the phone off and disconnected, I think it's safe to wait until the final bill to pay off the line. You don't have to wait for an email to look at the bill. You should be able to check the amount due and due date on Verizon by signing in through "one time payment option/disconnected account" option using your account number which you hopefully have saved. If not, you can call Verizon to request a paper bill that has the account number. They will not give you your account number over the phone.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to call back today and try a different agent. The one I was talking to didn't seem real competent.

Will go ahead and file the fcc complaint though. Their antics are a little absurd.

Just to clarify.. these steps are in the Wiki summary. What is the meaning of "If it says no purchase date found, continue to create a case and request a call back Upload the PDF"??

Does this mean, I have create a support ticket with Apple? Don't understand why.

Appreciate if someone clarifies this step!
If you look in settings and you either don't show a coverage line or have an expired coverage, you can get Apple's 1 year warranty still by having them set up the proper purchase date.

So far, going well for me. Here's a summary for others benefit

Nov 17:
Ordered Verizon iPhone

Nov 19:
Shipped and line activated

Nov 20:
- Called Verizon to get phone no and account info (did not write it down during Walmart order)
- Created account, linked phone, added credit card, paid off line per info in wiki
- Disconnected line by Live agent chat
- I cancelled on Day 2 after activation, hoping the activation fee will not be charged. Bill hasn't generated yet
- iPhone is in transit, will receive tomm

Nov 21 Plan:
- When I turn on the phone, it cannot activate since Verizon line is disconnected
- Will activate with T-Mobile eSIM (a flex policy iPhone can be activated on any US carrier)
- Most likely will not be able to unlock the phone. T-Mobile will ask me to deal with Verizon (I believe the IMEI will be tagged as a Verizon phone). Verizon will not unlock since I never activated the phone on Verizon. Still hoping T-Mobile will be able to unlock after a few months/ 1 year on their network
- I did not want to wait 60 days to use it on T-Mobile, that was my primary reason for skipping Verizon activation

I hope Fedex will deliver the phone without issue. If delivery is screwed up, I might be in trouble - Walmart is only liable for the $20 tax, not clear how I can get my money back from Verizon
Verizon activated the phone, hence the 60 day clock started - it will unlock automatically at that point.

That said, it seems eSIM swap worked? Is the physical SIM still locked though?
