I own the 20V MAX Brushless 14" String Trimmer. The premium line XR 17" was the top performer on Project Farm if memory serves correct. The folding feature, and brushless motor are worth the upgrade. With the 5ah or bigger, the higher end models don't bog down on field grass and thick vegetation

Purchased this from Woot couple weeks ago to leave at remote location. Works pretty good especially considering the over grown grass I cut with it. With that said, It has a tendency to let grass loop around between shaft and where string is held. It does this ALOT and may be why its having bearing failures? No doubt, less of an issue if grass isn't so tall though. MIL has the XR others have mentioned and its the cats meow.

Decent deal on the battery since it comes with a free weed whacker. I had this model and burned it up trimming on a hot day, motor started smoking after about 20mins of use. It never worked again and I threw it away. Go for the higher model or get it for the free battery if you have a very small yard.

The folding XR20V is great and worked well at my last home with less acreage. If you really want/need a beast, the 60V flexvolt is far superior. I still have the 20v and can use it here and there but the power of the larger is great. The weight balance is better as well but also comes with a neck strap if needed. The 60V also can swap attachments so have the hedge trimmer and edger attachments. They don't go on sale often but having 3 in 1 tool is handy, especially if you're committed to DeWalt ecosystem.

I have a 20V brushless trimmer with 5.0 maH battery. I have had it for 5 years now and still going strong and robust. I bought it for $100 at that time from HD. I don't know why I didn't buy such cordless trimmer many years ago. I went from electric black and decker to a gas powered cheap craftsman curved shaft 2 cycle one and finally bought this Dewalt one and it has been a peace of mind for me. I love it.

💯% echo this. it's not just that it is stronger and runs better. but the ergos are a little bit better, the folding in half mechanism is 2,000% better.

I have almost the same story. Battery on mine is starting to fade a bit. Likely will be in the market over winter here for some clearance deals. Would like to try a 40v next time
