* If you have a Sync2 module with a USB thumbdrive, you don't need a subscription. BUT, you still need an internet connection because the cameras bounce video clips off Amazon's servers. So the path is something like Camera --> Blink servers --> Sync2 module --> Thumbdrive. If your internet connection goes down, your cameras won't save any videos even if you have a Sync2 module. Happened to us while we were out of town.
* Since Blink doorbells are battery-only, they don't start recording until the PIR sensor detects motion. The camera then needs to wake up and re-establish its wifi connection. The practical upshot is there is a few second delay between the motion and the start of recording. Too many times I've gotten a motion-at-the-door notification on my phone only to check the clip and the video doesn't start until the thing (usually vehicle) is almost out-of-frame.
* The app lets you select the motion-trigger zone. It's not perfect but it works pretty well. You'll still get false events from sunlight reflecting off passing vehicles at certain times of day. Probably no way around that.
* The PIR motion sensor only detects side-to-side motion. If you're approaching the camera face-on, it will not trigger an event. So it's important that you place the camera at an angle so that someone walking up your sidewalk walks ACROSS the sensor's field of view.
* The 2-way audio is pretty useless, especially if you're not a subscriber. First, there is a few seconds delay for the initial doorbell notification. Then a second or two to pull up the live view and another couple seconds to initiate 2-way audio. By that time, most people have given up and started walking away.
* The doorbell was beyond useless on Halloween. Blink's servers must've been absolutely hammered because the average lag between kids ringing the doorbell and our phone apps triggering a notification was several MINUTES.
* Battery life on a pair of lithium AAs seems to be pretty decent. We've been here 6 months and have had hundreds of motion events and batteries are still good.
