im not sure about the picture quality but i can answer the other one Xumo is basically a heavily Customized Android TV box with no app store all the apps are preinstalled you cannot install more with that being said it does have most the apps you need Youtube, Youtube TV, Hulu, Netflix, Pluto tv, Disney+, Max, Paramount+, Tubi, Prime video, etc. Total of over 250 apps preinstalled. Its a joint Venture between Spectrum and Xfinity. Whiles its not a terrible OS i still personally prefer Roku bc you get a little more control as a user Xumo is basically for people that like the cable experience without having cable.

I remember when my parents bought our first 50" flatscreen, it was also a Panasonic, and it cost $20,000 in 1998, about $40,000 in today's money. So $150 feels like a steal? 🤯

That Pioneer plasma from 2009 is probably better than this TV.

I remember buying a Pioneer plasma TV for $2,000 back in 2009. That felt like such a splurge back then. TV prices are crazy low now. And Pioneer also seems to have lost the market, too.
$2000 is still a solid budget for a good tv (would be $3000 in today's dollars). It's just that low end TVs back then were not going to be flatscreen because merely being a flatscreen WAS the latest tech.

I bought this tv for 199 a few months back and I've been happy with the picture for the price. I spent 500 on a Vizio 4k few years ago and the picture is better on this.

Is it better than Hisense on sale from Walmart which was $138?

is there a catch?
Xumo OS is the catch. Cheap TV the cost of adding a streamer matters, so when you can get a just as cheap hisense or whatever with roku or google it wins.

These would be ok for a display only, but they'd still need to be cheaper than a similar low end roku/google set, and $150 isn't that.

I missed the days where dumb tv was widely available to choose from. No bloatware, no pointless wifi set up, just turn on and done…..but on the other hands, dumb tv weren't cheap nor easily attainable as today so whatever to me

Looks like this is normally below $200. The 50% discount is misleading. Walmart had a better deal on the 50" last week.
I don't know if I've ever seen a "% off" that WASN'T misleading... its marketing, a.k.a. legal lying.

Doesn't pioneer outsource their TV hardware from TCL?

Yep, the Pioneer Kuro plasma TVs were the top dog plasmas back around 2006. I could only afford a Panasonic at the time, and it was $1700.

Just grab the $20 Onn box from Walmart, and you won't have to worry about the TV bloatware. You'll have full access to the Google Play Store or the option to sideload. I never use the apps on the smart TV. https://www.walmart.com/ip/onn-Go...2835618394

?????
My Sony TV gets bogged down if I install more than ten additional apps.
I have to transfer them to the external USB storage !
