As one person pointed out, these auto-fill and drain mopping vacs are still in their early generations. Mold can be a problem and is really bad for your health and that of your family.
The clean water tank should never smell. Period. That's the water that's going to go into the robot to mop your floors. You don't want a robot spreading moldy water all over your house. Kind of defeats the purpose. And if you have to empty it daily to prevent issues, then you've got mold growing in the system.
Roborock sells silver ion cartridges that go in the clean water tank, and cleaning solution that you add to the clean water tank when you fill it up. Those should help.
The newest models disinfect and dry the mops before and after each cycle. I have the Qrevo Curv and the dock is pretty impressive. It's only 6 weeks old but the mops and the clean water tank have remained spotless and odor free. The used water tank can get stinky but it's isolated, with the valves at the top, so I just splash a little bleach on the bottom every time I empty it and that has solved the issue (don't do this with the clean water tank!)

Here's how I summarize the lineups:
Vacuum Only: Basic Q5 with no mop is going to be the simplest, most reliable robot, and the best value. And it'll have all the features most people need in a robot vac, for just $140 (more with a dock). Folks getting their first vac should seriously just consider this.
S-Series: Next level vacs that do a better job of avoiding tangles, and mopping that starts to be more effective, but still an early generation mopping product.
Qrevo Series: State of the art mopping, with dual spinning mops that do a better job of cleaning, and docks that do a better job of keeping the mops clean, plus some newer features:
Within the Qrevo series, they keeping improving on the product with each new model. Look at the features and you'll see that there are many differences between the $500 and $1200 models, but these are the biggest
- Mops that swing out to clean along edges and into corners
- Side brushes that swing out to vacuum along edges and into corners
- Newer brush designs that get better and better at avoiding tangles
- Mops that lift higher up and out of the way when going over areas that you don't want to get wet, with software that does a better job of recognizing those areas automatically (like rugs)
- A suspension that lifts the robot up and over thresholds or flat furniture legs.
- Auto-empty and refill docks that clean and disinfect both the mops and the dock itself between washes, with hot air and super hot water
- Onboard cameras and software that do a better job of obstacle avoidance, like recognizing and steering clear of a pile of pet poop.
For most buyers, these features are only valuable for a particular circumstance. Long-haired people with shedding, incontinent pets, expensive silk rugs, and a complex house with thresholds to cross need more of these features than a single guy alone in a tile floor apartment.
The exception to me is the disinfecting dock -- all things being equal, I'll always take the one that cleans and disinfects itself better!
There's a comparison chart linked in this discussion.
