I bought this 2 weeks ago when it hit $600. Wish I'd waited. I don't regret the purchase, but it would have been nice to save another $100.

I got it because the 60hz 42"monitor I had for work ( 4 1080p apps in a workflow is great ) was just a bit too large. This 38" size is perfect size. Small enough for the desktop while still running apps at 100% scaling.

The picture is very bright (600 nits) and crisp as this is an RGB monitor while all the 42" 4k monitors are BGR and require cleartype to get the fonts looking decent.

Playing games at 144hz on displayport in the evenings is great as well. (Only 120 hz on HDMI).

The downsides to this monitor is that it's only 8-bit, so you sometimes run into dithering.

The speakers are also crap. Very low volume and muddy.

The monitor has been discontinued. I hope they make more models of this size in the future when I need a new one.

Interesting, may I ask what gpu do you have AMD or Nvidia? I'm asking bc on my 32" 4K I have all my Radeon cards recognize it as 10bit panel whereas the RTX 4080 only see it as 8bit panel, it seems that Nvidia lacks 10bit support and that is why, someone with a Radeon cards needs to confirm this please.

According to this https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors...t/khynyf1/ you can enable 10-bit in the Nvidia control panel.

I have an AMD 7900XT. On a computer hooked up to the HDMI, it shows as an 8-bit panel. On the computer hooked up to Displayport it shows as 10-bit, but I believe that is wrong, as it also shows as being 1060 nits, and it's a 600nit panel according to ASUS. The ASUS specs also list it as 16 million colors, which is 8-bit. It's possible it's using the fake 10-bit (8-bit + FRC) on displayport, but my guess is it's just really 8-bit.

Well yeah true 10bit are super expensive monitors, probably this one is only 8+FRC but still better than 6+FRC = 8bit.

I downloaded some 8-bit vs higher bit test images. They look the same on the screen. I believe it's the 16.7 million color (8-bit) asus lists on their website.

This monitor is definitely an oddity. I got it during the last price drop as well, so only regretting missing out on the extra $100 drop.
With an Nvidia 3070, and using HDMI, the Nvidia Control Panel will not only let me set 10 bpp, but 12 bpp as well. But I can only set Full output dynamic range using RGB. If I try to go with YCbCr444, it wants to drop to limited. As everyone says, though, the panel really is 8+FRC.
HDR is achievable on this, at least recognizable by Windows and I see the intensity (brightness, not sure about gamut) ramp up for supported games and YouTube videos when using Chrome. I should say "HDR" due to the fact it's not rated HDR10, but rather the oddball Vesa HDR600.
BUT - the high refresh rate is nice. It will report at 144, though my card really can't do that AND 2160p together well.
The size is really the exact point I wanted. I was running two 32" panels, one landscape, one portrait. The PG38UQ fits perfectly as a replacement for my landscape monitor, and the text is nice and readable.
I REALLY would like to get another as a back up, but with the fact that the warrantee clock would start ticking on it as well, I don't want to shoot the budget on it.

I have a 1440p 27 inch monitor but really wanting to go a bigger monitor. However is 4k a significant upgrade from 1440p?

Does anyone know if it uses PWM? Is it flicker free? From Asus description: "Flicker-Free technology reduces flicker to minimize eyestrain for improved comfort when you're embroiled in long gaming sessions"
Thanks

Got this during the last time it was on the frontpage and have been using the monitor for the past 3 weeks. This monitor is amazing. As someone that has to create a lot of content in a vertical video format, this monitor has been invaluable and much more useful where I need extra vertical room, not just extra horizontal room that an ultra-wide monitor provides. I just run it at its native resolution and I have room for tall Premiere or After Effects windows as well as space left over for browser windows and media players on the side. Highly recommend this size and resolution.

I don't think you'd go wrong with this. I'm tempted with this at the $500 price. If you wanna spend a couple hundred bucks more, the 42" LG C4 OLED would be another good option. I'd personally try and find an open box at Best Buy and I'd imagine you have the holiday return policy to test it out until end of January.

I picked this up. Seems like such a sweet spot for those of us needing producitty but also gaming. Can't run with OLED due burn in and it seems like a 38" is a better size than 42 for those at a desk. I remember considering a 32" 4k IPS for $550 was a DEAL just a few years ago, so this seems like a no brainer.
