Amazon has Stonemaier Games: Red Rising Strategy Board Game on sale for $8.99. Shipping is free w/ Prime or on $35+ orders.

Thanks to Deal Hunter niki4h for finding this deal.

Note, product must be sold/shipped by Amazon

Product Info:
  • Enter the futuristic universe of Red Rising, based on the exciting book series by Pierce Brown featuring a dystopian society divided into fourteen castes.
  • You represent a house attempting to rise to power as you piece together an assortment of followers (represented by your hand of cards). Will you break the chains of the Society or embrace the dominance of the Golds?
  • Start with a hand of 5 cards, and on your turn, deploy 1 of those cards to a location on the board, activating that card's deploy benefit. Gain the top card from another location or the deck, gaining that location's benefit and adding the card to your hand as you enhance your end-game point total.
  • Lots of easter eggs to explore and attention to detail. Knowledge of the books heightens your enjoyment, but it is not necessary to love the game.
  • Designed by Alexander Schmidt and Jamey Stegmaier (Scythe). Illustrated by Miles Bensky (Rolling Realms), Jacqui Davis (Viticulture), and Justin Wong.
  • Hand Management, Set Collection, and Variable Player Powers. Heavily inspired by the game Fantasy Realms. Easy to learn, hard to master!
  • Features an Automa to play against in a single player game for a fun solitaire experience. The Automa simulates an opponent for you to compete against, while your game as a player remains the same. On the Automa's turn, flip a card to see what action it takes.
  • Ages 14+
  • 1-6 Players

As a Stonemaier Games collector (Wingspan, Viticulture, Scythe), trust me - skip Red Rising. Don't let the low price fool you. The constant sales should tell you everything you need to know. Anyone praising this game clearly hasn't played many quality engine builders or other older Stonemaier titles. It's a mess of random card effects with zero strategic depth. Save your money, even at this price. There's a reason stores can't get rid of their stock. Same with Pendulum.

Agree with this entirely. I love Jamey Stegmaier and many of the games his company puts out but Red Rising was surprisingly disappointing. Euphoria, Viticulture, Wingspan, Scythe… all fun games. Played this one at a con and it just wasn't worth it at all.

If you are really into the IP this might be worth it for you at this price.

The biggest problem with this game, that I found, was that there is a certain point in the game where you have done all you can. You have maximized your hand and there is nothing left for you to do. But you have to keep playing until the end-game is triggered. This makes the second half of the game, for some players, literally just drawing and discarding cards until it's over.

I disagree. You should be deploying a few cards until the end and avoid scouting. you should never have a maximized hand. the point is to get maximized points on the board. folks overvalue the combo in hands even though it's a hand management game.

Ok its absolutely not as good as their other titles Scythe, Wingspan or Viticulture. But thats an extremely high bar, those are top 50 games of all time.

I play Red Rising as a solo game only. I like it fine as a solo game at this price range.
I don't know how it holds up in multi player. I Agree that theres high random luck and not high strategy. Also some people also might like it extra if they're fans of the source books..

BGG has a score of 7.0 for Red Rising which isn't bad

This is a perfect game at a perfect price to introduce people into the concepts of more complex games without being overwhelmed by the exact best strategy. Games like Dominion, scythe, arknova, spirit island, etc. have too many moving parts to get someone with no board game experience on board with. This is a very simplistic "engine" game with a heavy emphasis on getting lucky with combos. If you have a large collection of high strategy games you may not enjoy this game as much as something more complex. If you want to have friends over and play something entertaining enough for the price of a chipotle burrito then pick it up.
