I have the legion go and my friend has the steam deck

Steamdeck: 11.73 X 4.6 X 1.93

Legion Go: 11.8 X 5.15 X 1.61

The size of the Legion Go is extremely exaggerated by some for some reason. Also the Legion Go has removeable controllers which gives you more way to travel with it and also has a kickstand so you have more play options too. The Legion Go is just as portable as the steamdeck if not more. Now if your statement was comparing the Go versus the switch I would agree

I would actually recommend getting the 512GB and getting the custom backplate that lowers temps and gives you the 2280 nvme bay so you can put in a 2tb or 4tb drive and lower temps even more

Had a steam deck, went to this, then went back to steam deck. Legion is too big for a "portable" and battery life wasn't great. But it was powerful and nice screen. Steam deck is still best for all around

The previous $500 is for 512GB. I strongly recommend getting the 1TB instead since SSD swapping is much much harder on a Legion Go than on a Steam Deck.

That's interesting, can you elaborate?

I bought the 512GB version for $500 when it was on SD. I upgraded it to a 2TB SSD, and the upgrade was TRIVIAL. The hardest part was buying the $6 adapter to make a 2230 SSD fit, because those are much cheaper and more available than the 2242 that actually fits this machine.

I paid about $130 for the SSD, so that puts my total cost at about $650.

The device is pretty large, but not too huge. But the case is freaking ginormous. It's 2x bigger than it needs to be. It takes up significantly more room in my bag than my 14" laptop.

I don't have any of the above but am tempted as prices drop (or maybe wait for the new hardware updates coming out soon). So was recently handling this one, ROG Ally versions, and the MSI Claw and did find the Legion to be too big for holding and transporting comfortably. I personally prefer the overall size of the 7" screen handhelds, that extra one inch in the diagonal really makes a difference ergonomically to me.

I haven't held or seen the claw in person but I have held the ROG Ally and I can agree that it's much more portable. My argument was that the steamdeck is not much more portable, they are relatively the same size.

People sell a 3D printed backplate that has more airflow and a 2280 ssd bay on the back outside which give the drive better airflow and takes the drive out of the main compartment which also helps lower the temps on top of the increased airflow.

I bought the best one available that I'm including a picture of. It was $31 plus $10 shipping from a well know redditor but they have cheaper ones on amazon, ebay and aliexpress. you also need a ssd adapter. I havent installed mine yet because I'm waiting on the adapter but I have done a ton of research on it. That's how I found the best one.

I have this and love it. I connect it to my TV and use with a portable keyboard/trackpad. Works just like a mini pc. You can also attach an egpu to get even better fps with games, Im thinking of doing that and leave the egpu connected to my 4k tv. Otherwise, it can be a bit heavy when playing games in bed for a long period of time. I had the ROG ally for a few days but the screen was just too small especially for games like Skyrim and RDR2. The legion go screen is big and bright.

Aside from it being heavy and already owning a steam deck, why wouldn't I want this?
You do want it. It's a really good machine and works really well docked too.

I'm pretty sure for home based portable users, the best units are steam deck and this. prices pretty similar, oled is cool but evidently the legion has a great ips, and the extra screen size is a plus for home use. I've played my handhelds at home since the atari lynx
