How does this compare to the Alienware 4k OLED deal at Best Buy? Which would be better for a 4080 PC?

Apples and oranges. The Alienware is 4k, and this LG is 1440. Alienware is tiny, 32inch while this LG is huge, 45inch.

I have this exact model LG, bought it in August. I love it, it's awesome. But only because I use it by myself solo. If you need other people to watch the screen too, like if you're working and need your boss to look at your Excel sheet or whatever, the 800R extreme curvature of htis monitor hurts it. Extreme curve is only good if you're sitting right in the middle fo the monitor (as in, solo use).

Watching movies on this monitor is super awesome.... many of my favorite moveis are ultrawide aspect ratio, so they fill up this monitor completely. No black bars on top and bottom, which happens in standard 16:9 monitors. And the extreme 800R curve wraps around you and gives extreme immersion. I paid $900 for it and it was worth every penny.

Not even a comparison. LG messed up with these. They should pull them all off the market and take the L because crap like this tarnishes their brand. No matter what size you get, they're all like 80 PPI and their proprietary technology can't masque it. The Alienware has much higher pixel density and is 4k. The only difference is that the LG is ultrawide, but there are much better ultrawides out there, including the G8 and the Alienware DWF.

Went to the best buy near me to check this out last time it was on sale (2 weeks ago?). The text was abysmal for productivity (from what I could tell - there was no mouse and I couldn't figure out how to check the resolution windows was running). I do have an 8 year ild 36" LG 4k that I'm using currently, but the colors are so trash for gaming. Maybe I can dual screen these next to each other - wonder if my wife will notice the massive monitors on my desk. Haha.

EDIT: Went to another bestbuy on the way home today to double check. This one had a mouse and the text wasn't too bad. Unfortunately, it had really bad burn in from the LG demo that was on loop. Didn't give me a lot of confidence on buying this. The Samsung super wide Odyssey looked amazing, but I don't trust Samsung anymore after owning a few tvs and appliances from them.

Personally would not buy such a big monitor (45") that is only 1440p resolution. DPI is too low. Go for 34" 1440p Ultra wide, or stick with 32" 16:9 4K.

Yeah at this price point and size it should be a minimum of 110ppi.

Why no one offers 45-49 inch ultrawides in 4K 2160 resolution so far?
For productivity for doing work (at say 120 Hz), surely a powerful GPU is not needed, right?
Don't people want to have multiple apps on the monitor? That's where 4K is needed. Is it just me who wants that?

Would require a very beefy GPU to push all those pixels around, would be a very narrow set of customers who could afford both that kind of monitor and GPU (for now).

You mean powerful GPU is needed when gaming at 4K @ 240 Hz, right? But what about for productivity for doing work at 120 Hz? Is there no demand for that? Is a powerful GPU needed for that? Don't people want to have multiple apps on the monitor when working? That's where that 4K is needed. Is it just me who wants that?

With the way these prices are coming down I wonder when we ll see OLED monitors in the 27-32 size range in around the sub 400 range. Though for office work its arguably still not a smart buy ofc.
