I bought this at Costco when they had it on Clearance in 2023 May. As a stand alone sound bar it sounds good, and this was the reasonable choice for a the only feature I was interested in: Voice control.
That time the full price was officially maybe $699 and $300 on Costco Clearance.
Notice that some Bose sound bars have different remotes, this one was supposed to control all video equipment, too. Never needed that feature.
Used with google + Spotify streaming, usually works, fast, responsive. About once every two months I need to unplug and replug it as the google assistant responds (on the speaker) that "the speaker cannot be reached, try again later"
What was missing from this "outdated" model is dolby Atmos decoding. Do you have 7 speakers correctly placed in your living room? If not, then you do not need dolby Atmos, most users will not hear any difference if the same bitrate is used. Music is 2 channels anyways, so I did not think I missed out an atmos.
For $300 I do not think there is a better smart speaker (for voice controlling streaming music)

I've been using this on my TV for years and am very happy with it. Rear speakers and subwoofer can be purchased separately.
Only downside is that the mic isn't very good if I answer phone calls on it or if I want to use the built in voice assistant while it's playing music, it has trouble hearing me over whatever it's playing.
Thats an odd take but OK.
Yamaha has a much weaker portfolio of soundbar options, muddy bass. Not in the league as Bose….
I have both….Yamaha shifted to the garage years ago..
Can someone tell me if this is good as starting point for a sound system for the tv? Husband has been wanting a sound system, but I can't afford to spend more than 500. I figured a good beginning base may be good? Is there another system I should look for? I'm so lost.

Does this model require a subwoofer? Or does it sound pretty good without it?

I was considering this too, but looks like it didn't have aux?
Seems to have BT. If your computer has internal wireless networking, odds are it also has BT. If you don't have BT natively, there are usb dongles that enable BT.

I do have Bluetooth but I feel there is a slight delay as opposed to aux or arc.. maybe it's a mental block lol
