Just a heads up. Best Buy will install this (front + back cameras) for $99. The dash cam can be purchased anywhere, it doesn't have to be from Best Buy.

Great camera. Put one in my wife's car.

Got a new model for my car, DroneXC. Dash cam that live streams the video to my cell phone via 5G. So if the alarm goes off, it alerts me and I can pull up live video. The video is also automatically stored in the cloud. So if the entire car is stolen or they steal the dash cam, you'll still have the footage. Tracks the car via GPS too.

Yes, it's more expensive, but dope af.

Ordered the A119. Lowest price ever. Thanks iconian! Just in time as a friend just bought a new car. I've been using 1080P dash cams from Aukey and Yi in the $40-$50 range purchased in 2019 and they've worked flawlessly. Police officer ruled in my favor and wrote up the report favorably for a rear-end collision. I didn't even have a rear dash cam module, but he noticed the impact in the front-facing model I had. In another car, the police officer saw footage of two cars displaying road rage. One of the cars side-swiped my car and the police immediately ruled in my favor and wrote up reckless driving tickets for the two idiots. Every once in a while, check the camera to see that it's working, and reformat the MicroSD card once a month, and you'll be good to go. The dash cam market has caught on its popularity and they have jacked up their prices. A $40-$50 model will work just as well as a $200 model. You're paying for bells and whistles for the $200+ models in my humble opinion. The only reason why I spent more for the A119 is my friend wanted the name brand at the lowest price.

Is the 4k version worth it and is it a big difference between the 2k version? Also what is the difference between 2 Ch and 3 Ch? I'm new to dash cams.
I've heard that the 4k version has heating issues. I bought the 2k version 2 months ago and it has been great so far.

I live in Florida and this is the reason I've been waiting to get one. I've known a few people who had them and they didn't hold up to the summer heat.
I think I'm going to go with this instead:
https://www.amazon.com/ROVE-R2-4K...0D6J5B98H/

It comes with the same sensor (Starvis 2) in this thread but it comes with a mount, a free 128GB microSD card, it has a rear camera (its only 1080p).

The viofo can fail during a crash as seen here:

I maybe wrong but I think only the front cam of ROVE is STARVIS 2 sensor. I would rather have same STARVIS 2 for both cams.

This is an excessive amount of unfounded xenophobia for one to have.

If you don't want to deal with Chinese companies, you're free to spend triple the amount for the exact same hardware sold under a more American sounding brand.

Personally, I'd be more worried about the AI systems that are constantly recording you as you shop at Home Depot, Target, or Walmart. Heck, even Costco now knows exactly when you enter and leave the store.
Releax, SJW extraordinaire, it's not xenophobia to understand that the CCP is an oppressive, genocidal regime. We can love the Chinese people while understanding and being empathetic to the fact that they live under a horrible government. This person is clearly talking about the government/Chinese companies and not the people.

A119 V3 is a very reliable dashcam since it has been on the market for 5+ years.

Mini 2 is relatively new with better sensor/higher resolution. Mini 2 has voice notifications to inform you of memory card errors.

You can't go wrong with either one. However, for $85, Mini 2 is a better deal.

Phenomenal cameras. I've been using Viofo for years and if I current one were to die today, I'd buy the A229 Plus without a second thought.

Having had one dash cam in my car that had a "super capacitor" in it for "durability" but yet ultimately failed; I'm hesitant to keep my dash cam on the windshield during the summer.

Anyone have a good mount that is easy to release/install the dash cam?

The high cabin heat must be killing dash cams because I'm not the only one who has had this issue. I have security cameras installed outside that have never failed. The difference is that they are not experiencing 120+ degrees like the dash cams will.
FWIW, I have 5 dashcams using caps—four have Viofos and one has Aukey. All going strong, no failure. All vehicles in Texas sun year round. One vehicle garaged and that one has the latest viofo 119 installed a year ago. Rest of them are between 4-8 years old. All vehicles have rain visors installed so windows can be cracked open during the summer.

Reading plates is more of a function of FPS and shutter speed - 4K vs 2K will not be very different. Ideally shutter speed of twice the speed the vehicle is traveling at and FPS of 120 would be the minimum required to capture number plates of vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. Slightly less for vehicles traveling in the same direction. None of the dash cams advertise shutter speed of their electronic shutters
Viofo has a new a329 that does 4k with 60fps. From what I've seen of YouTube reviews, it's better but not spectacularly so. It seemed like the benefits were better cooling due to heatsink placement.

Since when is being concerned about privacy and security xenophobic?
I mean, you have heard of Tik Tok, and read how they basically steal every bit of info on your cellular devices. Photos, texts, contact lists, shopping habits, where you go, and when, every little detail of your life, they now have.

Given the info that the parent company, Bytedance has access to, simply by installing apps (note - don't need to use them, just have them installed), I think it's prudent to question all apps we have installed by CCP owned or controlled companies.

Your comment about domestic companies is true, but that is an easy fix. Turn off your location and bluetooth, and they will not be able to track you in store. At least until you check out, lol.

I've had mine (a119) for over a year and it constantly gives false positives on recording events. Keeps recording clips while nothing is happening. I reached out to Viofo and they suggested lowering sensitivity to the minimum setting, but that didn't work at all.
