In terms of performance versus price, it's a very good deal.

BUDGET
$500 USD doesn't get you much of anything Quality short of a really good sale.
The BARE MINIMUM Recommendation for 2024-2025 is the TCL Q750G (2023 Model) which the 55 inch starts at $600 USD unless on sale.
TCL tends to offer a decent value.
The TCL Q750G is the most basic/entry level model from 2023 we recommend. it doesn't do anything particularly well. It also isn't the worst TV in any category.

So if I used a Roku device for streaming I should be fine, correct?
Yes shouldn't be an issue. I use a chromecast externally with no issue when I have wanted to, and a roku would work just as fine. Everything via HDMI has been no problem.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the newer Q681? I pulled the trigger on the Q68 for 75$ less.

OP says shipping is free but I only see pickup or $230 for delivery. What am I missing?

Edit: According to Best Buy's TV shipping FAQ, shipping is only available for TVs 50" or smaller. Scheduled delivery is free but only if you live close enough to a Best Buy.

Imo, everything is priced accordingly. The Q750 seems to be of a higher quality panel than the q681. The 750 appears to be a true, native 120 hz panel, with all the benefits that brings. The q681 is a native 60 hz panel. The 750 is brighter also, "iirc". 1000 nits vs 600 nits on the 681.

I also just bought the 55 "q681g myself, 2 weeks ago from Woot for $300. $300 was my absolute cut-off.

How would compare the q681g to the Hisense u6n?

I just bought the Hisense 55 2024 model yesterday, but both the Hisense and the TCL are $480 at BB and Amazon. Both have 144hz refresh or so. Hisense has 2y warranty instead of 1.
According to rtings, the Hisense is slightly ahead of the TCL in the lower midrange and basically both are some of the best 55" TV in this price range one can buy.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/best/by-size/55-inch

But I have to say I have no clue about current TV tech and (q)led, mini, Neo, and whatever else they throw in there. Big Grin
I knew I wanted 55" 120Hz solid refresh and 4k, and not spend a ton.

Again, probably priced appropriately. Besides being a "mini-led", everything about the u6n seems on par with the 681. There is talk about the terrible viewing angle on the u6. No personal experience or opinion here.

Rtings.com explicitly states U6N is better: https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews...q750g-qled

Well U6N is $499 vs TCL Q7 $549, so I'm not seeing the argument for TCL here..

The TCL Q681g has not yet been rated by rtings, hence the question comparing it to the U6N

I don't think $300 mini-led is a real thing. I wish it was. 😀 Best Buy sold out the R646 for $400 the same day a year ago, no need to lower it further. The Q7 is near-led quality for $400 and a very solid deal.
It was for a few days.

I forgot that model, as I was focused more on TCL. U6N is a good value for the $350 sale price, especially for min-LED. And while it's 60hz, that's not a problem if you don't game. It then comes down to what features and the aspects of picture quality matter to you.

The argument is that TCL is much more reliable. I bought my mom the s405 in 2017 and it's still running strong today.
