Can additional money be put down on the device when checking out online? How about in store?
For example, I want to trade in my current phone and on AT&T that means bill credits over 36 months (as long as the new device is not paid off early). So for easy math, say $10/month bill credit over 36 months = $360. If the device cost $700, can I pay $700 - $360 = $340 at checkout in order to reduce my monthly payment?
Not online. At checkout, you can only pay tax

LOL at the actual page, it has one line for verizon.

Verizon:Terms apply: Installment for 36 months, 0% APR, $0 down for qualified customers. Tax due at sale. Wireless service (voice and data) required and is additional.
Seems like there's no actual detail for Verizon.

The iPhone 15 is 18.03$ per month, for 36 months, which comes out to around 650. But it also includes 350$ gift card. Doesn't that make this an effectively 300$ iPhone 15???

can you just pay off the line, and cancel service, and then wait for 2 months unlock, similar to the recent iPhone 14?
the iphone 15 direct on att is $6 per month or $216 over 36 months. If you are adding a new line, then you get another $200 off in credits, so effectively making the phone only $16 oop.

How are you shocked by this? Android phones have zero second hand interest. They are garbage compared to iPhones.
You sound exactly like the person who wouldn't know how to create an app shortcut on their phone. Apple most certainly knows their audience.

Not that good of a deal. Even if you got $1500, you are stuck with an expensive plan for 36 months ($2735). Not to mention, the credit requires a trade-in, and unless you trade in a high value phone, you won't get much back. You are better off selling your phone and catching a good sale (or port in deals) to score a discounted phone and use a cheap plan. Nowadays, you can get unlimited plans for $20-25. So, your plan cost in $36 months will be only $900. You also won't be stuck with a plan/carrier, so you'll be able to take advantages of port-in deals along the way, and you'll have the freedom of switching/upgrading your phone whenever you please (and sell your old phone before its value goes down).
Can you not pay it off after 3 months and switch to a cheap plan/carrier?

I work in software engineering with a focus in cyber security. Pretty sure I can technically run a train on you knowledge wise. Plenty of intelligent people use apple products. The products themselves work so seamlessly which take tremendous skill and meticulous coding efforts. Apple's ecosystem is something that disjointed android will never achieve. You'll always be the outsider looking in with a worthless piece of hardware when it comes to trade in's with that attitude.

Kind of doubt it, considering I'm a senior software architect at FANG. Don't get your panties in a bunch, soldier. iPhones are great. My elderly mother has an iPhone and she loves it.

So buy the phone with a payment plan of whatever value, pay it off later that day, and then cancel service? And the GC will still get sent and the phone automatically unlocks?
is it better to do this in store or online is okay too?
did you read the terms? device credits.

My thought, was to buy these phones, somehow pay it off instantly, and then cancel line. Just 1-2 weeks ago a lot of people did this with the iPhone 14 promo

I always buy my iPhone from Walmart's Black Friday deals. Since 2014, I will pay the full amount and leave a $1 balance for the device payment. Then, I go to the service provider to pay the remaining balance on the same day and cancel the service. So far, they have reversed all the charges, and the device gets unlocked. I don't like locked phones at all.

you just can't get any trade in promos with that method.

Do this deal in store. Ordered a phone online last year and it was stolen by Lasership and it was a huge headache to reverse the upgrade with Walmart/att

From the iphone 14 thread, looks like ATT will unlock faster. Because you can activate the phone, transfer the esim to another unlocked iphone, and then request unlock, basically similar to the physical sim swap trick. You'll likely have to pay the activation fee + prorated usage time because of shipping time + wait for unlock request to be resolved.
But how soon will we receive the Walmart gift card?
Which carrier is best to unlock after phone is paid off in full within 3 days ?

1) i know from last year experience Verizon gets unlocked exactly after 60 days . Other than phone payment , paid $11 as prorated for plan overall
2) how is experience with ATT?

To clarify, the walmart gift card doesnt require unlimited plan; only the trade in promotion does. For those who still hold on to their mobile share plan like me, this is the cheapest way to purchase new phones.

Not many details on Verizon unless I missed it. Does any unlimited plan count? I don't see any language that Unlimited Plus/Ultimate is required
