I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

Well I finally figured out why my simple choice plan isn't accepted for this promo... they changed me to a plan called "EIP voice test plan - removed - duplicate". So I'm not on simple choice anymore. What the heck am I on now then? No deal for me I guess, don't want to mess with the plan.

I traded mine for a pixel 8 due to S20FE battery just werent holding up for the daily usage. The looks and feel is about the same I might even miss some FE features. But it's nice not have to recharge once during the day to get by.
The s20 fe battery when I first got it was amazing. Now it's about half the usage that I originally could get out of it. That and Android security updates are my biggest reasons for trading in. The S20 FE was a great non-flagship phone.

You do not need to use the new phone when it arrives but you do need to keep the line you "upgraded" the new phone on active for 2 years to get all the credits. If you cancel the line or pay off the phone early, you'll lose the rest of the monthly credits. Also, you won't be able to "upgrade" that line again till you've paid off the new phone.
Everything is right except the last sentence. RDCs are not limited to 1 per line; multiple RDCs can exist per line (confirmed by me earlier this year). You might run into other roadblocks: you might reach your total finance $ limit from T-mobile, agents think the same thing of only 1 RDC per line and they are not willing try, and other reasons. But the system doesn't care, you can load multiple promotions and RDCs into a line. That's why I just upgraded online for this promotion on lines that already has 2 ongoing RDCs (making this RDCs #3). Contract looks fine but we'll find out next month how the RDCs look (I expect okay since no RDC changes were announced since the early payoff nerf this year).

T-mobile is waiving the $35 DCC fee if you upgrade through the T-Life app according to reddit [reddit.com].

Costco is still the best route for waived DCC fee and 75 Costco shop card. But if you want to order online, either use the T-Life app or order through the website and tell support that the app didn't work for you to get a $35 credit on your next bill.
Costco no longer waiving the $35 fee. At least, they haven't the last two times I've upgraded in store at Costco. And, yeah, I asked. Both times.

I don't understand why anyone would trade-in if they're also giving out the phone free on 24 month contract without trade-in(ON US thingy)

Anyone know if this works with Advantage Unlimited Plus plans? I.e. Are we staying on our current plan just with an upgraded phone, not having to change plans?

I'd rather not give up such a stellar legacy plan if possible. Thanks!

Is there ANY way to get an XL with more than 256G? I want a larger size, and the app/web page doesn't seem to offer it?

Worked for me and I'm on the very old Simple Choice plan. Used the T-Life app and it waived the $35 activation fee. Traded in my Pixel 7 and wife's Pixel 6A. Just paid $64 for tax on each phone.

For those who did it via Costco telephone, anywhere in the paper work about the $800 promo? I only see that I entered in agreement to pay the phone for 24 months. Just trying to cover by bases.
