I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.

Yes, I love T-Mobile! I've been with them since 2002 and they've always had the cheapest plan out of all the major carriers. I welcome these deals with 2 years of bill credits because I'm never going to switch carriers unless they force me to change my plan.

T-mobile just recently changed the policy on bill credits. You can't payoff the balance anymore without losing the rest of the credit. Giving it to someone is a little different from selling it to someone and I don't know how tmobile would enforce it but that phone is under EIP contract until 24 months are done. Things could get weird if you sell it to someone and that person tries to trade it in to tmobile. Worst case scenario might be you may get charged for $800 or something close to that on your phone bill all of the sudden.

Yes, of course. Selling it to someone would work as long as they kept it for the full 24 months and then TMo would unlock it and they could do whatever they want with it. For sure there'd be issues if they tried to trade it in before the 24 months. The paying off early and losing bill credits has actually always been a thing to my knowledge. I wouldn't recommend selling it to someone unless it was a friend or family member because sometimes TMo will only unlock it to the original owner unless that's changed.

Does the phone need to be activated on Tmobile w/ this offer? Want to trade in my families Iphone 12s, buy them 16s, and then sell the Pixels to recoup some of the cost. If it does need to be activated can I immediately go back to 16s?
