FYI : Once the phone is ordered with trade-in, the promotion should show up at your TMO Account promotions [t-mobile.com] page within a couple of days.
Limit: For those wondering if there is a maximum number of phone lines per account that can be upgraded through this promo, it seems it's 4 per account (as confirmed by T-Mobile rep).

That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

Glad you asked. Turns out the in store guys broke the deal and now i have to cancel/return all the phones and try again. It apparently doesn't stick if you do it in store... Argh.
on that page, there will be a document containing the trade-in info
edit: oh, i see the info in my confirmation email as well (at the bottom)

Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Samsung SM-G990U Galaxy S21 Fan Edition 5G 128GB Grey - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $799.99. "
I ordered it online yesterday. I didn't read about $35 activation fee waived deal for T-Life app until now, but even though I ordered online (web browser), they didn't charge me the activation fee. $77.50 due now (tax) and $8.33 per month x 24 months. I also have an T-One plan and I traded in my Pixel 7. I actually love my Pixel 7 but this deal is too hard to pass up. I only paid like $200 for my Pixel 7 after trade in 2 years ago, now I am getting $800 for it.

Not a part of the yearly trade-in program. Purchased heavily discounted P8 on another deal a year ago through 24 monthly credits at TMO.

Most phones have an "easy" to access water damage indicator:
