I have a Pixel 6 to trade in that I bought from T-Mobile 3 years ago, so the website already has the IMEI. I went all the way through the checkout process, everything looked good. But then I carefully read the Trade In Terms document. It said the Trade In expires on 11/23/2024 (tomorrow). If you then click on the link in that document that takes you to https://www.t-mobile.com/commerce...d-t-c.html , it says "If you fail to return your Device by the trade-in expiration date, you may be required to pay back any value or credit advanced to you." It also says "...if you sell your Device online or over the phone, we will honor the Offer Price if: (1) your Device is received by us by the Offer Price trade-in expiration date."
That's impossible, how can I mail it and have them receive it the next day? They should have an expiration date at least a week or two away, so that I can first receive and activate the new Pixel 9, copy stuff over (if needed), delete all my personal info from the Pixel 6 ("You will remove all Device data and personal information, passwords, security software, or user locks."), then ship it to them and leave time for shipping carrier to get it to them.
So I reluctantly backed out at the final step.
This deal worked on my Simple Choice plan -- via T-App, traded in S21FE, total was the $35 DCC + state tax.
You'll actually be fine with the trade in. Just placed my order and this is verbatim from my confirmation email from T-Mobile:

What's next?
Once that cool new device is in your hands, get started on these important next steps.
Trade in your old device
Once your new Pixel 9 Pro ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Google GVU6C Pixel 7 5G 128GB White - T-Mobile in good condition to retain your promotional value of $800.00.

Can you get this at a local T-MOBILE store or is it online only? Need the new phone in the next couple days.
It's online only deal, but you can order online and pick up at the store. Search for your local store on t-mobile.com, click on "Show Store Deals & Devices" to go to your local store landing page. If it shows in stock, you can order online from there as lastmile order and pick up at that store.

Wondering if I should trade in a S22 or a Pixel 6

Definitely hard choice. I'd go with Pixel 6. However, if ur s22 was like me and many others and had a bad battery life, I'd go with s22. My s22 i got from a friend would get 4 hours of daily use and just die. Or 8 hours standby doing nothing and dead. Battery health said 88%, too. When there was deal on a s24 I was happy to let that crap go.

Just got my XL last night. OEM locked from the start. Enabled developer options before connecting to any network.

OEM unlocking grayed out and says " Unavailable on carrier-locked devices."

I've read AT&T versions may be able to be OEM unlocked before setting up.

Just got mine and its the same way. This is unfortunate. I wonder if doing a temporary travel unlock would allow the bootloader to be unlocked?
Did you see the screen asking to register/activate T-Mobile eSIM during first boot? I was able to toggle OEM unlocking by skipping everything during first boot with no network and no wifi connections and no physical SIM inside the phone during first boot. Some people claimed that you have to put another carrier physical SIM inside, but I don't think that matters because the key is not to let the phone connect to any network or get online during first boot so that all the carrier/service and setup processes do not run in the background during first boot.

I'm novice guy! Can you please explain how to go to options where we can toggle OEM unlocking? Were you able to use your phone with other service providers like AT&T?
Thank you in advance.

wow, almost 1,000 comments.

Im just curious, I got the two phones I ordered yesterday. Can I drop the trade-in devices at a physical T-Mobile store instead of shipping them in the mail?

Yes. Choose a corporate store over an authorized retailer. They'll check the phone and hook it up to a machine to make sure it matches the one you submitted online. Get a receipt from them

Has anyone seen the 256gb Pixel 9 in stock at any point during this promotion? Trying to see if it's worth holding out hope that it can be ordered.

Also, are people still able to order through Costco for the additional $100 GC?

I think so, I skipped all the setup same as you. Still grayed out when I got into settings.
No biggie, they let you temporary Sim unlock for 30 days five times a year.
I was also starting to have issues with my rooted phone with apps even with Play Integrity Fix.
You also lose Widevine L1 on unlocked bootloader, so Netflix plays in SD.

Found I can do everything I needed without root using alternative methods.

Android: sign out of Google account, settings/system/reset/factory reset data.
Apple: turn off find my phone, sign out of Apple account, settings/general/reset

You may want to provide a link of how to do it. In one of the Tmobile instruction video, it mentioned this additional step.

If you google Tmobile trade-in phone, etc Tmobile gave instruction of TURN OFF Stolen Device Protection for iPhone or similar things like turn off track your phone feature from Samsung, Google, etc BEFORE you send your phone for trade in.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWn-73AfDFQ

If you forgot to turn off those tracking/protection feature, it may prevent the transfer of the phone or trade-in of the phone.

Has anyone been able to order this thru costco-tmo phone customer service in the past couple of days ?

Also, any news on the deal expiration date ?
To answer my own question, it appears Costco phone reps are no longer honoring this like they did during the first few days of the promo.

I suspect they used the loophole of the app/website glitching early on during the promo
and T-mobile probably put the kibosh on it now.

If anyone is still successful in ordering thru Costco now, please chime in.
