I struggled for the X10. However, many Macs and Windows don't have the USB 3 2x2 needed. So, saved the money and went with the 9.

I believe it's pre-formatted as an APFS volume and the color is slightly different.

As a Mac user, I'd just get the cheaper one and format it myself. Only takes a couple seconds in Disk Utility.

It has a 3yr warranty with a tbw limit I can't find so I'd say it's fairly durable. I bought a Kingston xs1000 that has a 5 year and 1200 tbw warranty for $99 back in October and it is screaming fast like this one but much smaller.

Edit if you trust crucial customer service this drive is $10 less direct from them

It says "Black Friday Deal" so it is unlikely there will be a bigger discount on Black Friday.

That links is for the X9, not the X9 Pro. X9 is QLC while the X9 Pro is TLC.

EDIT: I think the X9 Pro also has a 5 year warranty, an aluminum case and an IPX rating while the regular X9 is a 3 year warranty, plastic case and no IPX rating. Spend the extra $10 and get the Pro.

...or this? I'm not knowledgeable enough to decipher the difference, or to know which brand/model is more reliable.

someone wrote this on that thread

if you aren't storing critical data or data that isn't stored elsewhere Id go for whatever is cheaper from this list, they are all faster than regular external and portable hard drives

Kingston XS1000 for Value
Samsung T7 for Reliability & Value
Samsung T9 for Reliability and Performance
Crucial X10 Pro for Performance & Value

Yes but what if someone does this with critical data?

I think that might be the actual question to answer

I picked this up and wow this thing is small! About 2/3 the size of the old T7 Samsung I used.

Do we have any idea of long term storage reliability? Need one to store wedding and vacation videos.

This is also what I remembered. I didn't buy last year because I had the samsung 4tb but turns out I needed a backup too.
