Intel Core Ultra 7 265K is $299.99 with free Assassin's Creed Shadows game code (releases Feb 14, 2025). On top of the massive drop in the 265K price, they're offering $70 off any Z890 motherboard.

Yes, the 265K is currently a disappointment of a CPU, but only due to the $419 MSRP at launch. If you consider that it beats the $359 Ryzen 9 9900X / $319 i7-14700K in Cinebench / Blender / most productivity and will likely match those CPUs in gaming at 1440P / 4K, then it's a no brainer at $299 (especially if you include the motherboard discount).

I'm also positive that Intel will fix some of the gaming issues going forward, much like they fixed many of the ARC GPU issues over time.

Wonder why Microcenter doesn't offer a proper bundle with the newer chips on sale with the RAM? I've been looking to build an Intel workstation PC that isn't a 13th or 14th gen because of the problems it has but i'm still waiting. Still a decent deal, you just have to find some RAM on sale for a good price i guess.

I actually like it better this way since you can choose your own motherboard and RAM rather than having to be "forced" into their choices in the bundles (especially if you're into m-ITX builds). 32GB of DDR5-7200 RAM is around $100 now, so this bundle ends up being approx. the same price as the i7-14700K bundle and cheaper than any Ryzen 9900X bundle I can find.

The 14900k bundle with 32gb and mobo is $600. This one would be at least $520 with 32gb ram added. Is the added performance of the 14900k worth the $80? (Understanding that the loss of power efficiency is a con)

Edit. Looks like the ultra igpu is significantly better.

I don't believe the 14900K is worth it given the massive power draw difference and stability issues they've had in the past. I know Intel has said they're fixed, but given that it's an EOL (end of life) platform, I wouldn't want to be stuck on it. Initially Intel said that socket 1851 would only support a single generation of CPU's, but they've back tracked on that, so looks like we'll get at least 2 years of support.

Here's an excellent review from Hardware Unboxed / Techspot on the 265K: https://www.techspot.com/review/2...ra-7-265k/

You can see that that the 265K is basically on par in Cinebench multi-core and beats the 14900K in single core, basically the same in Blender as well. It's 29% more power efficient to boot. I'm sure Adobe and gaming fixes will come pretty soon to get those up to snuff (and the CPU's will be about equivalent in gaming at higher resolutions anyway).

Any of the DDR5-6000 32GB CL30 kits for $85 would be a good buy. I would personally spend the extra $20 and go for the DDR5-7200 CL34 sticks:

Looks like Intel is already rolling out updates to increase gaming performance:

Imagine thinking to buy Intel 🤣🤣🤮 and it costs more. What a joke.
All depends on your use case. Everyone is hammering the new intel chips on gaming performance, but not everyone who builds a pc is gaming. Intel is a better choice for workload and productivity, while the x3d chips are mainly for gaming.

Those would work. I haven't had much luck with Silicon Power as a brand though. Used a few of their SATA SSDs years ago and they failed pretty quickly. The reviews on newegg look pretty good. I usually stick with Corsair, Crucial, G.Skill and Team Group memory though as I haven't had any failures with their products.

Microcenter is offering $70 off ANY LGA 1851 motherboard with the purchase of a 265k, in addition to $120 off the 265k itself. So you can take your pick on the motherboard, it doesn't have to be the one listed in this deal. I chose a full-size Gigabyte Z890 UD for $140. Total cost for CPU+Motherboard was $440 before tax.
