Ultramarine (Fedora) works great. Some have said disabling write protect can be done by disconnecting the battery, but I used a cable.

Unfortunately, I'm a Ubuntu user.

I have a suzyQ, so I'm not worried

Why these silly steps to write a new OS? If someone buys a device they should be allowed to install anything, after accepting terms. Only a small subset of buyers ever use a different OS anyway.

The BIOS is proprietary and made for ChromeOS. You just have to disable the write protect to install a standard third-party UEFI firmware. It's not a huge deal if you can follow instructions. I did it because this has pretty good specs and an awesome screen for $200. It also got me off Windows as my daily driver since March.

Picked this up on Ebay for a song, very nice screen and keyboard--and it's very fast...on the downside, it's a little big and the backlight on the keyboard is pretty dim

How many years of Chrome OS support for this?

I'm so tempted to grab one. I've been holding out for a best buy open box but haven't seen many.. scored a really nice, practically new Asus CM3401 for $150 including 3 year warranty back in May but gave it to my parents and now I want one.

I would bite but 8gb soldered ram, no extra slot. Sucks because this has great specs otherwise

Bought one. I've been looking for a more portable laptop for traveling. Don't need too much "oomf" and being able to put Linux on it was a plus.

Curious what you will get for battery life and suspend. The drain with suspend is my one issue with my mint setup

You'll most likely need to buy a 2230 or 2242 NVME SSD. Seems that they now have a "fuse" to prevent reflashing the emmc (and NVME is faster)

I'll try and check, but my usage is almost always having it plugged in.

This is a bit more involved, you would need to update a flash setting (using a special USB cable) to support SSD NVME, I am typing on the same laptop with SSD NVME. I didn't see much performance difference though, so unless you need more storage I wouldn't bother.
