You are right it is pretty old, but it is a great cooler. No it isn't the best but for 10 bucks it is more than adequate for most users.

I have this exact cooler on my gaming rig. No OC or anything and it just works away and has been for at least 5 years now.

Check CPU temps while under load see how high they get. CPU's can handle high temps but high temps can cause thermal throttling which can hurt performance. This will likely outperform most all stock coolers though if that's what you're running.

i got this when it was $5 recently, and i am using this on a 7600x on eco mode (around 90w peak power usage)
it got to max 68C hottest core temp on a 10 minute multicore cinebench r23 run, score was around 14,241~
i am using the lian li a3 matx case, and my rtx 3080 suprim x is blocking any airflow from reaching up
max temp i've seen was 77.6C (ccd1 tdie) while keeping hwinfo in the background while gaming and web browsing (only for 2 days)

Do you max out your CPU for extended periods of time? Even gaming does not do this. If not then I would say that this is sufficient. If ultra silence at heavy workloads is very important to you then spending more could give you that.
