A quick note - I think costco has their house brand vanilla extract for 9-10 bucks IIRC.

It's just vanilla beans soaked in alcohol. About the equivalent healthiness of 70 proof alcohol. In some subtle recipe, there might be a perceptible difference in taste between real and artificial, but for baked things like cakes and cookies artificial vanillin is often preferred by tasters in blind trials. Cooking destroys a lot of the volatile flavor compounds in real vanilla, and if you aren't cooking something at high heat, you may be better off with vanilla beans as the alcohol may have an adverse flavor. Artificial is cheaper (twice this amount for $6 at Sam's), has less alcohol taste per volume, and most people prefer the flavor as long as you don't say it is artificial. Artificial is so cheap that I often throw it in one of those oil nebulizer things to get vanilla smell throughout the house.

<$2 Baker's brand imitation vanilla>pure vanilla extract IMO. Especially in things like ice cream where you taste the alcohol because it doesn't cook out.

I can confirm it was $9.99 at my Costco just this past week. I had it in my hand, but then put it back.

May have been on sale, or perhaps they do regional pricing. I just confirmed it at mine.

9.99 in my area Costcos. Costco online pricing is usually higher than in store.

Costco is $9.99 for the Kirkland brand for me as well (northern NJ). They also have organic Madagascar vanilla beans at $9.99 for 20 vs. $9.99 for 2 at my local grocery store. Almost made the hellish trip to Costco today worthwhile...

Never a good deal. Get a bottle with a tight lid, I use a metal clasping lidded bottle. Drop in vanilla beans fill with vodka. Gradually over a few months it's better and better. The beans last forever and the taste is a game changer. My mission to spread good vanilla throughout the world. 😀

The 16 fl oz extract has been less than $10 at the brick and mortar Costcos I have checked during the past few months. The online price is <$14 which is higher than the in store prices. Bottom line is that this posting is not a deal for me.

$9.99 at our local Costco. Business Costco also had a 32 oz bottle of Rodelle pure vanilla extract for $19.99.

I tried this once. Never again. Even after 8 months the vanilla flavor was very subtle. Just buy the giant Costco bottle for$10.
