I have these, got them a few years ago for this price. Would recommend getting the locking version. These are still awesome but have had multiple situations where I wished I could lock them into position as they get quite floppy after a little use. I'm a DIY'r not a mechanic.

I'm just a DIYer, but I tend to over-research all my tool buys. I literally JUST bought new wrenches right after that video, so here's my subjective impression of all the subjective impressions.
I noticed the Gearwrench 120 vs 90 vs 84 variations and thought having an 84T and 90T seemed odd, so I looked around for testimonials from folks that had at least 2 of these. From what I remember, the 120T seemed the least liked (lots of returns despite expecting to like the "upgrade" according to forum posts) and the 84T the most liked. Almost all said that they wouldn't return an 84T to get a 90T, or vice versa, but they found themselves reaching for the 84T more often. In general, it came down to "feel".
Most of the feedback was on car forums and specific to the 3/8 inch non-flex head. I'm not a car guy, so I focused more on woodworking and furniture stories. The non-locking flex head was universally disliked - I saw very few people defending its design and most returned it. It seemed folks didn't like the locking flex heads either, but those people didn't seem to like flex-heads overall. I had a hard time finding complaints about any of the 1/4" and didn't put a lot of weight in the 1/2" (rarely my use case).
In the end, I figured that if so may daily users didn't have a major preference between 84T and 90T, it wasn't going to matter which one I went with.
(I ended up going with a 3-piece Neiko 100T fixed head set for $30 and have been totally happy with it. I'm not going to be stressing them much, so my main criteria were arc swing, back drag, and direction switch resistance (and price). I had a DeWalt set and never liked it. The Neiko was on sale and I have a couple other small tools from them and have always been surprised by their quality despite the low price. I think they tip the warehouse guy in China an extra $20 per 1000 units to get the products that weren't dumped from a cargo plane at 20k ft. I've gotten stuff off AliExpress that was identical, but fell apart in a few days, while the Neiko variant is still fine after years.)

Gearwrench we make 72, 84, 90, & 120 tooth versions of the same tools because were not sure how much money you wanna spend.
Meanwhile our parent company is making Apex, Crescent & SATA branded versions of the same tools.

I have the xp120 stuff, I wouldn't want the 84 after using the 120.

Are they the same quality?

100% agree… They always flex when you don't want them too.

Unfortunately agree, I have the non locking and I get aggravated that they don't stay put when trying to move quickly. Would rather have to take the time to set it right than keep f'ing with it to keep it steady.

The 84's are pretty nice, don't get too caught up in tooth count. My non-flex head 3/8" 84T is one of my favorite ratchets

I second this comment. I have both the locking-flex-head and the non-locking version, and I can speak from experience that you could apply more torque to the locking version.

I have only the 1/4" ratchet from this set and it's by far my favorite 1/4 drive ratchet... and I have about 20 of them. Don't get too caught up in the locking vs non-locking deal, not locking has never been a big deal for me and the one GearWrench locking ratchet that I do have has stripped out once and broken once. I'm also not sold on the higher teeth count being better - I do have a couple 90t and 120xp rachets that are pretty nice but in real life it doesn't make a huge difference.

The 120XP have bigger heads, especially the 1/2 drive one. And that is why I am looking here. This one seems great. But I kind of want the 90T one more, since the 90T ones have out-performed almost all ratchets in tests run by Project Farm. There aren't a lot of tests on the 84T ones.

I have the locking flex head and I don't think I could live without the locking. I have a snap on without locking flex and I don't even use it anymore.

I assume they are 1/2" 3/8" and 1/4" drive but what size drive is the stubby ratchet?

All of you complaining about non locking rachets, have you ever tried tightening the bolt on the flex joint. I don't have these but have been using the snap-on flex heads for 20 years and they loosen up after a bit and you just need to tighten the joint if that done.
