T-mobile has a hidden plan for 30GB data a month data plan (you get your own sim and need your own device).
I got a cellular modem for $40:

Call in or use their online chat to inquire about the "Basic Mobile Internet 30GB plan (SOC: MI30TE or MI30TI)". It is $15/mo but you get a $5/mo discount by using autopay.
If you can't repro then you suck. This also provides you with a phone number for the data account and you get access to t-mobile tuesdays despite it only being a data plan

Used chat on tmo website. Agent was able to duplicate. Required hard credit pull. Got instantly approved. Used my credit card and got the $5 auto-pay credit (but will check the first bill to ensure it stays $10 and doesn't go up to $15.
Agent did 2 day shipping for sim card. All-in-all, process took about 10 minutes. Planning on surfing this card into a hotspot device I found for $2 at a thrift.

This seems like a much better option for $10. You get a modem along with it.
Can anyone chime in on why this isn't the better route?

Try again with another agent -- I signed up with this at Costco last year, and all I did was provide them the SOC code to pull up this specific plan (they weren't aware of it).
The SOC code is MI30TI
(mobile internet 30gb tax included)
It's meant to be used for a hotspot, but let them know you have one on order. Once you get the sim, you can pop if into any phone or hotspot device.
I just converted it to an esim for my s23u with the help of tforce on Facebook Messenger and the rest is history.
