If you were a mint customer, you were able to purchase the phone for the cost shown without purchasing a year subscription. I did this when the phone was 399 and it worked. Drop your SIM card into the phone to start the 60 day unlock countdown. I would assume that's what the 300 phone being referred to is talking about.

Well today I learned, but I'm still curious to know if there would be issues down the line from Mint if I were to simply keep the device in an inactivated state.
