My new Pixel 9 is now carrier unlocked and OEM/bootloader unlocked.

The discussion with Mint customer service rep yesterday resulted in a trouble ticket being assigned to the "backend office". I was told I'd "receive an e-mail within 24-48 hours".

Late this morning (less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued) the new phone had a notification that the phone was carrier unlocked.

Under Developer Options the OEM unlocking was immediately selectable--I need this for installing the after-market ROM, but this bootloader unlocking is tied to the carrier unlocking.

Soon thereafter I received another notification: "No service" and "Selected network (Mint) unavailable". That may be due to the fact that I had previously deselected "Automatically select network" in settings. So I selected the "Choose network" option and then selected "Mint" (the only option since I hadn't changed Sims) and a few seconds later I was back in business.

I never received the e-mail from the backend office, but everything seems to be working.

To answer a couple other questions folks have asked: My understanding is that this is a permanent carrier unlocking. I believe I'd told the Mint customer service rep (Kylah) that I was going to be going on international travel (as the excuse for needing it carrier unlocked right away). I had paid for a year of service along with the phone. The fact that the service is already fully paid-for is one of the requirements you need to meet for them to unlock your phone right away. I ordered Tuesday of last week and received it via FedEx on Friday. I had used an eSim for the Mint service on this phone. I'm a brand new customer of Mint, but I don't think that should matter.

If I receive an e-mail from the backend office and it contributes any additional information I'll post a follow-up message.

I'd actually ported-in a burner phone number to this service. So after I load GrapheneOS, I'm going to switch numbers (port-in) so my new phone has my main phone number. Hopefully that will take less time and I'll get less of a run-around doing that.

Good luck!

That's amazing ! I just logged into my account and went to new phones and it showed it for $299!

Below is my order breakdown:

Nice!

Wasn't expecting to upgrade my phone but at this price its a no brainer for a better finger print sensor!

Gotcha. Thanks.

edit: found an old marketing mail from September. Leads me to believe that if I create a new account with the old address, I'll get the bonus. It's not super important to me since I mostly just want the phone and will have double esim coverage for a while anyway, but still, I won't complain about a couple free months.

Damn. I should have waited. Bought mine a month ago from them as existing customer for $400. I figured it wouldn't go any lower this soon, clearly I was wrong. Lol I doubt there's anything I can do now to price adjust. Doh
It is not hurt to give them a call to see.

If I were to purchase this Pixel 9 from Mint, should I expect Ryan Reynolds to bust down my door and smack me if I weren't to go to Mint to port-in a number to activate?
He'll send you a christmas card with a recipe for a "Merriment Mojito Mocktail" - no joke

Anyone tried signing up and porting a number, not on a year plan - then seeing if the phone is available to buy as an existing customer for $299?

The emails state they are valid for 30 days. Must use same email . I had to contact chat to confirm it was still valid

Tempting deal. Does anyone know if the Pixel phones sold thru Mint can be bootloader unlocked (to install a custom OS)?

You don't have to port in?
Port in is only required to get the half price unlimited plan. Existing customers can just buy the phone for $299 nothing special required (other than 60 days locked to Mint).

What would be the cheapest and simplest way to obtain a number that can be ported to mint?

Is a locked phone that is subsequently unlocked exactly the same as a factory unlocked phone? Or will the phone forever be different than a factory unlocked phone?
