You can buy the phone without the plan for $300.

My new Pixel 9 is now carrier unlocked and OEM/bootloader unlocked.

The discussion with Mint customer service rep yesterday resulted in a trouble ticket being assigned to the "backend office". I was told I'd "receive an e-mail within 24-48 hours".

Late this morning (less than 24 hours after the ticket was issued) the new phone had a notification that the phone was carrier unlocked.

Under Developer Options the OEM unlocking was immediately selectable--I need this for installing the after-market ROM, but this bootloader unlocking is tied to the carrier unlocking.

Soon thereafter I received another notification: "No service" and "Selected network (Mint) unavailable". That may be due to the fact that I had previously deselected "Automatically select network" in settings. So I selected the "Choose network" option and then selected "Mint" (the only option since I hadn't changed Sims) and a few seconds later I was back in business.

I never received the e-mail from the backend office, but everything seems to be working.

To answer a couple other questions folks have asked: My understanding is that this is a permanent carrier unlocking. I believe I'd told the Mint customer service rep (Kylah) that I was going to be going on international travel (as the excuse for needing it carrier unlocked right away). I had paid for a year of service along with the phone. The fact that the service is already fully paid-for is one of the requirements you need to meet for them to unlock your phone right away. I ordered Tuesday of last week and received it via FedEx on Friday. I had used an eSim for the Mint service on this phone. I'm a brand new customer of Mint, but I don't think that should matter.

If I receive an e-mail from the backend office and it contributes any additional information I'll post a follow-up message.

I'd actually ported-in a burner phone number to this service. So after I load GrapheneOS, I'm going to switch numbers (port-in) so my new phone has my main phone number. Hopefully that will take less time and I'll get less of a run-around doing that.

Good luck!

That's amazing ! I just logged into my account and went to new phones and it showed it for $299!

Below is my order breakdown:

Nice!

Wasn't expecting to upgrade my phone but at this price its a no brainer for a better finger print sensor!

I made my friend buy this phone for me on her account - just the phone - no phone plan - will this phone unlock itself after 60 days or 1 year?

I have the same question!

Can friend buy a phone and it will get unlocked in 60 days or we need to put a Mint sim in and keep that phone on network for 60 days?

If I buy $45 mint plan for 3 months and become a new customer, would I become eligible to buy the pixel 9 for $299 immediately once I login into my mint account? Thanks

Is a locked phone that is subsequently unlocked exactly the same as a factory unlocked phone? Or will the phone forever be different than a factory unlocked phone?
Good question. It will be "forever different" than a retail unlocked phone.

However, you are probably wondering if you can take the phone to another carrier like Verizon or AT&T. I don't know about AT&T, but Verizon has been whitelisting Pixel phones from T-Mobile. I verified that with my own Pixel 8 phone after it was unlocked via Verizon's IMEI checker. It was a pleasant surprise. Obviously it does not have the Verizon 5G mmwave radio bands since that's in hardware, but I can get Verizon-based service. I don't know about AT&T.

You may want to research this issue further. I don't know if this is specific to Pixel phones, a policy change with Verizon, or what is going on. Typically, in the past, SIM-unlocked phones from T-Mobile and T-Mobile NVMOs would not pass the Verizon IMEI check.

Is there a certain time frame you have to be off of Mint to be able to port back in and qualify? I ported out to TW not long ago. Had been on Mint for a while.

Keep me posted if you find anything. I have ordered the phone regardless

I would give it at least 24 hours after successfully porting.

What is a cheap and easy option to do that?
Choose an MVNO offering a free trial, but I would personally steer clear of Boost and Lyca. YMMV

It was even better for me as I was able to get the same deal for $189. It was very very shortlived though.

Considering that deal, this is not looking much better as 5gb/month is enough for me.
But it's not likely that a similar deal will show up again anytime soon with TMobile acquiring Mint.
That deal definitely spoiled me, I really so no reason to upgrade my phone aside from the barely-noticeable crack in the screen. Also for whatever reason the trade in value for the 7 pro is miniscule, $100 in "good" condition, $75 with a cracked screen. Better off just selling it on Swappa.

Google store is offering $540 as trade-in value for 128gb p7pro, for good condition.

How? Does it require an active plan prior? Can we buy the 3 month plan and then purchase the device?

It is not hurt to give them a call to see.
I talked to chat and the best they could do was credit me $20. I decided to call and see if I could get something better and they offered me a $10 credit. Lol

When I said chat offered me $20 they said they could do that, but they can only credit me $10 now and I'd have to call back in a few months to get the additional $10 credit. Apparently they have a limit they can credit per month. Kind of annoying. It's not $100, but I'll take $20 over nothing which is what I expected they'd say. Lol

Lesson learned, wait for Black Friday week I guess. I thought $400 was stupid cheap, $300 is even stupider. Haha
