I bought a couple of these last time they came up and they leave streaks like nobody's business. Just...bad.

Get some dawn or degreaser, dilute it, spray it on the windshield. Then use a melamine sponge (mr clean eraser), and scrub the windshield. Put a big towel over the dash, and use a squeegee and pull it to one side, wipe it up as best you can. Then use a simple glass cleaner with the same technique. Paper towels are fine too. A regular glass cleaner on it's own is only good for very light duty work. If the windshield is a mess, you need to hit it harder with the degreaser / dawn combo

Invisible Glass makes a windshield cleaning tool that's really great. However, the microfiber cloth it comes with is a little too soft. Usually you'll probably want to pair it with a The Rag Company window towel, which have very dense fibers that prevent and eliminate streaks.

If you get this, make sure your glass is already CLEAN before using it. Otherwise it just creates impossible oily streaking that is difficult to remove. And when you're done, you probably want to use a damp cloth, go over it, then buff out to perfection.
