These are great bags, along with the Patagonia black holes, TNF voyagers, etc. however this 28L size is the one size I wouldn't buy as it only works as a duffel. There are no backpack straps which makes a world of a difference when traveling or having to walk any moderate amount of distance

FYI, it appears to be coated with PFAS according to this review if that concerns you:

REI doesn't mention this on the product description, but this is a "water resistant" product, and they use PFAS aka "forever chemicals" to achieve this. I saw the "water resistant" description on the tag when it arrived. I just wanted a simple gym bag and have no need for chemicals known to cause human and environmental harm. Shame on REI for continuing to hide this information (and even worse, for continuing to use PFAS in their products). The Q&As for duffels of other sizes have plenty of customers asking about this information, which is how I eventually learned of it.

You use the handle straps around your shoulders to use as a backpack. I been wearing duffels this way for a while now. Works great although not exactly as comfy as dedicated straps but it works!

To be fair, that is just an assumption that one reviewer made, but if it is covered in PFAS then it would violate REI's product standards which required all PFAS bags to be phased out by Fall 2024 (or maybe we're still in Fall 2024?): https://www.rei.com/assets/stewar...s/live.pdf

My mistake, definitely PFAS since REI said this in the Q&A: "This duffel is treated with a DWR that does use PFAS-based chemistry."

Just as I found this deal...
Is there any other deal on duffels that comes close?
