In all seriousness, I recently bought the 16-core 5900XT for only $270, and I feel like I got a far better bargain and bang-for-the-buck than this.

Man gotta love cpu manufacturing.

Costs about $100 each at the fab for a 8 core CPU. For the 64 core about 1.5x that cost. Yet they are trying to sell this for 5k. It's really just marketing and putting dollars back into R/D. Sad

Sad thing is, Mac Studio M4 Ultra is gonna smoke this thing in Single Core and be be closer than you'd expect in Multi-Core, all in the size of a small cake, running fairly quiet and cool, sipping power. For the price of this CPU alone.... for more and more people, it's making less and less sense to own a traditional high performance Windows/Linux desktop the size of a 2 year old kid with the associated noise that comes with said kid.

Unless you have very specialized workloads and an absolute need to swap parts, this is no longer the way to go.
True.

Is this fast enough to run madden? Or is there one with 256 cores?

lol, yeah right. Can that Mac Studio M4 Ultra even run the types of applications that this processor is made for? Can the Mac take on the workstation GPUs (RTX X000) that would go along with this processor? How about the inference processors? Can it even be part of said environment? I don't see many Macs in industrial, engineering or architectural firms. Do you? Truth is, the computer is often the cheapest part of said environment, and they start at $10,000. Once you factor in the license keys, SANs, consulting and support fees, Macs don't play at this level. They're not a part of the conversation. The only place you'd find your Mac is at the entrance with the receptionist.

Do you people really think Thunderbolt 5 is really the fastest protocol that computers have to offer? People doing real work need closer, faster access to the CPU and that means direct PCiE connections, something Apple only offers in their Mac Pro lineup. But the problem with that is that Apple Silicon wasn't made to play with others. It's a closed system. This Threadripper and its EPYC cousin are the real deal. Mac Studio Super Ultra isn't it.
