That said, the Deck does have a massive and active community, so any problem you have will be documented somewhere else. Valve also partneredwith iFixIt and repair parts are readily available.

I changed the windows screen settings on the console to 60 hz and have it hooked up to my 58" Samsung.
I'm currently running Buldur's Gate 3 in standard medium settings and the game is running GREAT. It's running fantastic in 1080p 60hz med settings with no tweaks.
just a note, the regular Asus rog sucks and should have not even been sold. weak compared to the z1 extreme and x.
the Z1 extreme is awesome but battery life is terrible if you want to be on the go which most do unlike me who only plays docked. the SD card will also eventually burn out so if you want to have more memory you will eventually have to upgrade the inside memory.
the ally x is amazing, but super costly right now. they fixed any problems with the extreme, plus more ram and way more battery.
that said I am super happy with my extreme the way I use it. (always docked)
This is due to Hackers utilizing SteamDecks/Linux to exploit due to it being easier compared to Windows.
I am utterly out of date on any information for this, but looking to buy this year. Thanks in advance for help, repp for assistance!

Also, Steam Deck weak ass cpu. Can't wait for Steam Deck 2.
The "weak ass" CPU will play everything from PlayStation 1 all the way to PS4 games in high FPS and fidelity.
And why are you so obsessed with OLED if it's $500 for a "weak ass CPU"
I have the LCD deck and it is perfectly fine. I have a 3rd gen/most recent OLED monitor, OLED phone, miniLED laptop and let me tell you- this OLED or bust ideology is such wank, the LCD is perfectly fine and I could care less paying $200 more to upgrade to an OLED.
I'd genuinely be more upset departing with $200 more than I'd care for looking at the OLED display. And I think it's a better position to get a LCD deck used on FB marketplace for around $250. Insane deal and you won't feel robbed when the Deck 2 comes out. $250 and it's the same performance/FPS as the OLED deck.
Of course though, if people want to shell out the $$ for the OLED display, better battery life and other improvements that's fine too! Many people really fall in love with their Decks and they become their main gaming device, so the value proposition can definitely be there, regardless of the aging API chip (that still fares very well- miles ahead of the Switch)
I sold mine and bought an Ally X instead; it's a night and day difference. Don't fall for the steam deck hype; it's a very mediocre product at best.
Additionally, you can buy a docking station for around $30 that converts them into a console. They double up in function. I bought the 'Baseus 6-in-1 Docking Station for Steam Deck/ROG Ally X/Legion Go with HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz' from Amazon, and it's very nice. I have the official Steam Deck dock station, but I think this one is even better than that. That's the talk of 2023-24 and what I consider year of the handhelds.
You can upgrade the hard drive yourself to 2TB. Depending on your toolkit, it may take an hour or two. While some people claim it only takes 15 minutes, that's typically the time removing and inserting the HDD, the literal process of doing just that, which make it seem deceptively simple than the actual reality. Be careful when taking apart the case, as it requires skill. The internal J-hooks need to be pried the right way to avoid damaging the case. What I like is after installation of a new hard drive the cloud reinstallation of Windows 11 was easy!
With Steam, on the software side of installing Steam OS, they used a compression extension that needs to be extracted. Then mount. If you decide to install Windows 11 for SD, Valve released the drivers necessary for it to function properly. So SD has the service support.
100% would buy if I had the self-control to play games moderately..
I picked up this LCD deck and will try it connected to my monitor to see if I can do 1080/60 in the games I care about. If so, this is a great buy for my huge Steam library and my occasional flying for work, and my kid will be thrilled to have access to a more powerful desktop.

I beat both Elden Ring and the DLC by playing 50% on my PC and 50% on the Steam Deck. I get a solid 40-50 fps on mine. Plays very well for a handheld.
You're an Asus fanboy on a Valve thread, it's OK, we all have our preference. Let me know how warranty support is with Asus though
