If we use American Express we may get hundred dollars off on this but I'm just afraid of buying a refurbished one , dont know if it is a good choice or not for $978

Given the Intel CPU-self destruct issue, I'm not touching the 13th or 14th gen with a 25 foot pole.

Every time I look, more and more of those CPUs are being added to the affected list. There's zero trust in Intel right now.

These laptops have been straight trash with their build quality, thus folks just returning them after noticing so many negatives. A lot of flex in the body of the computer, very low battery life when just doing web browsing (1.5 hours max), and this thing hella heavy. Not to mention fan is blowing loud on doing easy cpu tasks, word, internet etc

Especially when you can nab a Macbook Air M1/M2/M3 for under $1000....get a fairly nice keyboard with zero flex, a 2.5K-ish "retina" display, and a genuinely awesome trackpad. The other day on my heavily used M1 air, I got around 15 hours of runtime -- 50-60% brightness, wifi, light-medium use. Zero fan. Featherweight.

And this is considered "entry level" hardware.

True, it doesn't have massive amounts of ram, storage, or graphics....but the M1 CPUs don't self-destruct like Intel's 13th and 14th gen.

The mobile chips like these HX are not affected and never have been. Not a reason to avoid these laptops, and as long as you are buying new 14th gen desktops, you just need to update the bios as they have fixed the final issues plaguing them.

Not that we know of. The affected list has been expanded several times. Zero trust in Intel.

And it's a "refurb", which is another name for "used". As in not new.

But hey, spend your money as you see fit. I genuinely don't care if someone knowingly buys a lemon. I have no horse in this race one way or the other.

None are mobile. Random parrots like yourself is what we can't trust. Link any list, won't have any mobile processors on there buddy. And I said new desktops. Sounds like reading in general may not be your strong suit huh?

None are mobile....yet. The fact that such a glaring issue made it through all the testing gives me zero confidence in their company.

But hey, if you're confident that you're not at risk, by all means. Enjoy. I'm not a gambler, rolling the dice on a $1k+ purchase.

You want to compare a Lamborghini to a Mini Cooper? Really?

"Gee, my Mini uses so little gas per mile compared your that awful gas-guzzling Aventura, and did I mention how much easier it is to park?"
Your M1 has 8GB or RAM, this has 32GB, this has 20 cores and 24 threads, plus a powerhouse 4070, and a Cherry Mechanical Keyboard. Yes, it is has crap battery life. All power rigs like this do. However, it renders AI imagery and runs advanced NNs on the RTX GPU quite nicely, which no Apple can do at all.

All those fancy things that so few people need, yet they can't get a keyboard and trackpad right.

The people who buy these things do actually know what they are getting and why you know. I work with heavy video editing and AI work. Not one Apple model can do it for me. I also do a lot of writing, so the Cherry Mechanical Keyboard is music to my ears (and magic to my fingers). You can troll all you want about the Apple M-whatever, but the fact is they have nothing to offer me.

Ah, so you're the ones developing these confidently wrong AI applications which are solely designed at taking jobs away from industry professionals.

....you think that's a testament to this machine? ...really? lol.

Many many thanks for this. I bought it just now. The plain new ended up $1390 ($1299 + Tax), while this was flat out $1079. Just sweet deal. Cherry Mechanical KB to boot.

My last Outlet purchase from Dell was back in 2012, and it runs to this day.
