NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

During tonight's monologue, Leno went after Letterman by saying the only way to get Letterman to ignore you is to marry him.

Oh yea, check out this Chinese news animation explaining the whole fiasco.

Yea, if only they had this amount of mudslinging from the beginning, no one would need to move anywhere and everyone would be happy. I know I am watching now. laugh out loud

This used to be funny, but now it's just getting ugly. Leno and Letterman are unleashing some bottled rage against each other and Conan is just riding this until Friday. Wow!

I think Tarantino said it best when they should have a Late Shift 2: Conan's Revenge. guns ablaze and phrases for days Rock

That's in reference to Conan forced Jay Leno to step down from the Tonight Show. NBC wanted to keep Conan back in 2004ish so they agree to Conan that he will have the show in 2009 without asking Jay Leno

With his days as host of the "Tonight Show" quickly winding down, Conan O'Brien is pulling out all the stops against his soon-to-be former employers at NBC. On Wednesday night, O'Brien decided to hit the network where it hurts the most -- its wallet -- by rolling out a "crazy-expensive" comedy bit in the form a "Bugatti Veyron mouse."

"There it is, the most expensive car in the world dressed up as a mouse," O'Brien said gleefully. "As you can hear, the mouse's theme song is the original master recording of the Rolling Stones [billboard.com] classic, 'Satisfaction.' "

"Is this appropriate music for a car that looks like a mouse?" O'Brien continued. "No! Does it add anything at all to this comedy bit? No it doesn't. Is it crazy-expensive to play on the air, not to mention the rights to re-air this clip on the internet? Hell, yes!"

Total cost of the segment: $1.5 million. O'Brien's payout to leave the "Tonight Show": a reported $45 million. Sweet, sweet revenge? Priceless.

Doubt they actually bought the car, maybe he borrowed it from Leno.

Who gets to keep the car? Zucker might get the last laugh if he ends up driving it

$60k for 8 months isn't bad (the whole point of this was to bridge the gap until he can get them work again, it's not a 'settlement' the way he has a settlement, they don't have contracts). It equates to $90k a year on average.

In any case though, Conan's agent is saying that it might be more, that he was satisfied with how much NBC is giving his staff and that he may supplement that out of his own pocket. Conan is a stand up guy when it comes to his staff, he paid them throughout the writers strike. I believe Jon Stewart did this too. Having backgrounds in writing, he stood with them in solidarity. Compare this to the uber weasel Jay Leno, who broke ranks and wrote his own monologue, and the WGA sued him.
