NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

This is what I find more amazing...

NBC: "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" 3.3/10
CBS: "Late Show with David Letterman" 2.5/5

Fallon beat Letterman......!!!! Ugggg
This is why lead-ins are important. Send that article to the moron that thought Jay Leno at 10pm would work and then blamed bad ratings on Conan.

That was me Big Grin I watched the first 10 minutes or so in Fallon's show. Then it got weird with the "Lick random sh*t for $10" bit. It wasn't funny..just...odd.
Same here. I don't like Lick it for 10, but I like his beer pong that he sometimes does. Fallon does interviews pretty well, esp. when he tells stories. But his stand-up/monologue sucks. Leno and O'Brien have the best monologues in terms of being able to make instant comebacks based on the audience's reaction (or lack thereof and acknowledging the joke sucked).

Letterman probably conducts the best interview. No one will ever beat the interview he had with Madonna some 15 years ago.

To be fair, these guys have little to no input on the day-to-day comedic writing for the show. I'm sure they have veto power and probably cherry pick 5 mins of material from 15 mins of writing or something like that, but much of the monologue should be credited to the writing staff. Leno and Conan have honed and perfected their staffs (giggity giggity) for like 15 years, so it would be outlandish to expect Fallon to have as refined a writing staff. He'll probably get better in time.

I'm sure Fallon will get better with time and acknowledge the audience's reaction better, but will he ever get as good as Leno and O'Brien? I doubt it, but I'll root for him to do so.

Letterman is boring as hell though. At least jimmy has some spunk in him.
I'm really disappointed with Fallon. His monologue jokes are even worse than Leno's, he's copying Leno too much with those dull games, and some of his interviews fall completely flat. His thank-you notes and singing the news bits work, but overall he's worse than Letterman, despite trying harder.

I would totally rather watch Letterman over Fallon. The only thing that bothers me about Letterman's show is Paul Farking Schaeffer. So annoying!!! All his lead-ins/jingles for the show's bits are the same: he yells it and then ends it with "YAHHHHHH!!!!!" Angry and the Top Ten lists are dumb. Otherwise, I think Letterman's a funny guy and is great at interviewing the guests.
Paul Shaffer is perfect because he loves everything about showbiz and people while Letterman is uncomfortable with both.

I don't think Fallon is ever going to get that good. I don't think O'Brien was as good as Leno, but he's miles better than Fallon.

Apparently O'Brien's monologues sucked when he first started out with "Late Night", but it's much better now. We'll see about Fallon. I was a little surprised that NBC didn't promote Carson Daly to "Late Night", but I'm glad he didn't get the call. laugh out loud

Yea he even makes fun of himself for it. During his 10th Anniversary special, Mr. T brought him a gold chain with a '7' on it. Conan tells him that he's actually been on the air for 10 years, but Mr. T says "I know, but you've only been funny for 7, fool!"

laugh out loud Well, at least even Mr. T acknowledged that O'Brien has been funny of over half the time he hosted that show. Big Grin
