NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

I don't agree... it's not the same thing... Kevin Eubanks is a very talented musician... he will be just fine. Andy Richter was a comedian that didn't have much experience, (or talent... although I do think he's funny)
Eubanks has a talent, and could go on tours, work on soundtracks for movies etc. I'm sure the job offers would be rolling in... or maybe he's even leaving for a better job anyway.

Did we forget about Branford Marsalis? Tonight show band leader from '92-'95 was just a small "blip" in his amazing career.

on another note... "the Chin" is terrible I watched it just to confirm that the show sucked.. (and I watched it to catch Lindsey Vonn of course!)OMGheart
when's the last time anyone's heard from Marsalis?

wow. I see what you did there. You took the literal sense of my question. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

anyways...

Eubanks is on a highly rated national TV program every night, while being able to do other musical things on the side... while I don't ever recall seeing Marsalis or heard his name mentioned on TV since he left.

No doubt he's an incredible sax'ist, but here's his Wiki:

Quote :
# From 1992 - 1995 Branford was the leader of the Tonight Show Band, on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Initially he declined the offer but later reconsidered and accepted the position. He was succeeded as band leader by guitarist Kevin Eubanks.

# Branford was a guest judge on the final episode of the fifth season of Top Chef which took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.

# On April 28 and 29, 2009 Branford played with The Dead (The remaining members of the Grateful Dead) at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, rekindling a relationship started when he performed with them at a legendary set at Nassau Coliseum March 29, 1990 during which, according to Dead aficionados, one of the greatest renditions of "Dark Star" (song), was performed.
laugh out loud Definitely the best sax'ist Top Chef ever saw

NBC asks the internet "to post photos, ideas, links, and other things you want Jay to see." The results?

The show last night was ok. It had some good parts and Foxx was acting crazy trying to pump up the show. i don't think i can watch the show anymore without thinking how NBC totally screwed up with Leno and Conan. I'm begining to hate NBC and can't watch the show much longer.
Jimmy Fallon needs a coach who can trach him to talk to his guest in front of an audience and not chit chat with the guest with awkward questions and make the audience feel like we are eavesdropping in on them. Some of Fallon's bits are funny but feel like he's selling me a mac/iphone every night.

If Eubanks leaves, I bet it'll turn out to be a bad career move on his part. Look how badly Andy Richter suffered when he left Conan's show the 1st time. Years later, he came back - well, at least for 7 mos. laugh out loud We'll see if he rides Conan's coattails wherever O'Brien ends up.

I recorded yesterday's Leno show but haven't watched it yet.
Andy Richter was never anything without Conan. Kevin Eubanks is way more than a band leader on a tv show, go read up on his career instead of flaunting your ignorance on the subject. BTW, would you say the same thing if Max Weinberg left Conan? Oh wait, he leaves Conan all the damn time to play in front of sold out crowds with the E Street band and some guy named Bruce Springsteen. Richter on the other hand never had much success before Conan. He was a second rate stand-up and a decent writer, but he had no exposure at all. Eubanks was signing record deals and performing on dozens of albums. He signed his first record deal in the early 80s and he composed the ending theme of The Tonight Show 3 years before he even took over as band leader. The notion that

Err, he's been tremendously successful actually. Are you mistaking mainstream exposure for success? He's not a pop-star, he's a musician.

In all honestly, I just remembered Leno is back on tonight from this thread. Haven't watched NBC since The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien ended. The second that final show was over, I stopped watching NBC.

I watched the 1st 2 episodes. His previous "Tonight Show" was funnier, but at least he brought back Headline News. The guests were pretty good, but I didn't like either of the musical performances. Sarah Palin held her own in her stand-up bit. nod

Robin is nobody w/o Batman. Scottie Pippen would've been a nobody w/o Michael Jordan And Eubanks would've been a niche w/o Leno. That's a fact. If Eubank walks, I bet you that hs notoriety will be cut by 2/3 at the least. Max Weinberg was already a somebody before he joined O''Brien's show, so that's a poor analogy. Everyone has heard of Bruce Springsteen and the E. Street band.

Who? Sure, he may be a great musician, but he has less notoriety than Sanjaya from "American Idol". Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Who says musicians crave notoriety? Again, these are not pop stars. The best trumpet and flute players in the world are probably playing in an orchestra somewhere, how many people know their names? Not all musicians yearn to make the Billboard 100.

Actually Pippen would've been a NBA great even without Jordan

Pippen allowed Jordan focus more on the offensive side than defense.

if you read up on the interviews and comments of the Dream Team in 1992, everyone'll say Pippen was the key to the team, not Jordan or Magic.
He's just that versatile, running the point forward as well as lockdown defense from positions 1-4.

Proof is in the Bulls 1994 season after jordan's "retirement", Pippen basically carried them to the playoffs, and if it wasn't for a bogus touch foul they would've won the series against the knicks

And this is coming from a knicks fan
