Leno returned to 11:30pm time slot

NBC Shakeup -- Jay Leno Comes Out on Top [tmz.com]

Quote :
We've learned Jay's 10:00 PM show will go on hiatus February 1. After the Olympics, Jay will take back his 11:30 PM time slot. What has not been decided -- whether Jay's show will be a half hour, followed by Conan, or whether Jay's show will be an hour and NBC says sayonara to Mr. O'Brien.

We're told Jay and Conan have both been told of the changes. As for Jay, interestingly, he'll get what he always wanted -- his 11:30 PM time slot.
No words on what will happen to Conan and Fallon... whether they both will get pushed back one hour of if one of them will be fired.

I prefer Leno at 11:30 than 10:00.

I can't find historical data now, it was fairly well-known that Letterman was more popular with the younger crowd out of the two of them. That's one of the reasons it's made such a big deal of now that Leno has edged him out in that category upon his return.
I've never heard that either. Every report I read during this fiasco is that Leno beat Dave for a long time pretty much across the board, especially baby boomers and midwesterns;that Conan did well with 18-30 yr olds; and Dave had a job because he knew dirty secrets about the powers that be at CBS laugh out loud

They do hate each other. There is even a movie about it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116835/

I think it's a documentary, filmed in real-time.
But their dislike is from when Leno got Carson's job, causing Letterman to flee to CBS. I don't think anyone would consider Leno being a backstabbing weasel for that.

"Jaywalking" is a tonight show franchise, it has nothing to do with Leno. Steve Allen started it and we've seen it on many, many shows over the years.

Further, it's ridiculous to think that hatred would stand in the way of an opportunity to put together a popular super bowl commercial that will boost your own show. Do you think Conan is happy with NBC right now? I'd guess no, but one of the first thing he did after he left was sign a deal between NBC and his production company for a new show.

I think you're confusing your hatred for Leno with the facts. Wink

When the dust settles, which is pretty much this week, let's see who gets the higher ratings: Leno or Letterman, be it 18-49 or overall.

I'd wait a few months before re-evaluating those numbers personally, and the final verdict for me doesn't go down until Conan hits the airwaves again.

Iagree I can't find anything, and have never read anything, that stated that Letterman was beating Leno in any category in the ratings.

Of course you would, because you want to make sure your hatred for Leno is justified.

Face it, the facts say Leno has the biggest audience of them all. Whether you like him or not it's the truth.

I hate American Idol but it's the truth that it's the biggest (and one of the shittiest) TV shows on the air.

We already saw what the #s are from ever since Leno took over for Carson until O'Brien took over for Leno.

And about the 2nd part, you mean you'll wait for the final verdict a few months after O'Brien is back on the air again. Of course he'll have the biggest week and even month when he first returns.

Looks like Leno lost the 18-49 already. Quicker than I even thought.
Quote :
In terms of audience totals, Mr. Leno averaged 4.36 million viewers to 4.19 million for Mr. Letterman. But among viewers between the ages of 18 and 49, which NBC always points to as the real measure of victory because of the preference of many advertisers for that age group, Mr. Letterman had the edge: a 1.3 rating to a 1.1 for Mr. Leno.

How convenient of you to leave out this part in your quoted text:

"CBS enjoyed a significant advantage in the 10 p.m. hour with a much stronger showing for the drama C.S.I. Miami than NBC could achieve with the venerable Law & Order. The lead-in often helps the late-night shows."

Let's see how Letterman does vs. Leno for the rest of the week when CBS can't ride "CSI Miami" every 10 pm.

Who were the guests last night on both shows? That will affect ratings significantly, too.

And how convenient that the 10pm lead-in is suddenly important now but wasn't when Leno was doing jack shit leading in for Conan. Leno's 10pm show never did anything CLOSE to what Law & Order pulls in.

nobody argued that Leno was good at 10pm Dontknow NBC believes Leno is more effective at 11:35pm

beowolf is only arguing that Letterman is riding off of CSI and to wait to see what happens when L&O returns

Yep. Also, I'm not going to claim Letterman won the battle after just 1 night, just like I wasn't going to tell Leno is the ultimate winner after just his 1st week or so back on the "Tonight Show". Letterman will get a bump b/c of his scandal, so that will throw things off this week, as well.
