In summary, they don't make them like they used to, but they still seem to be decent quality other than many people complaining about the humming/buzzing.
Probably still the best value for something with a sub. Still the quality (and price) has gone down from what they were 10-20 years ago. Still rocking the ones I bought in 2005.

I'm still rocking these speakers I bought for $5 more 7 years ago. Still working well and sounds great. Best price to performance speaker system ever in my opinion.

The downside of using PC speakers instead of a soundbar is I have to manually turn the speakers on every time I watch TV. In contrast, the soundbar can turn on by itself with the TV.

We have a set that we bought at Walmart for $35 post Holiday clearance about 7 or 8 years ago. It's the main speakers for our living room TV. The sound is great compared to something like a budget sound bar.

The buzzing is quite annoying now. You can reduce it when not in use by turning the volume and bass knobs down but it's still there.
Have to end up unplugging them. Maybe I'll use a smart plug to shut it off.
