I personally like the barrel grip, I have both and reach for the barrel more. I am replacing my barrel grip with the Milwaukee M12 Fuel but this deal is tempting so I can compare for myself.

With that said - I have owned both styles, both by DeWalt, and both of them won't reliably hold at 90 degrees. The lever lock does not work well, in my opinion. Or maybe I just got a dud.

There is a slot in the shoe at 90 degrees, and a pin in the body of the jigsaw. So to lock the shoe, it must be pulled back so the pin goes into the slot. This is shown by the lock/unlock icons on the right side of the shoe. If not locked, only the friction of the lock lever is holding it at whatever angle you select.

Good deal, this doesn't go on sale nearly as much as the regular D handle. I don't use a jigsaw enough to switch but this does seem like the better form factor. Batteries will bring 100 bucks basically instantly on marketplace, more if you're patient.

Agreed, the lock is kinda counterintuitive. The manual explains it, of course I didn't read it until later.
