After reading all the bad reviews, I canceled. I don't want a BIFL level thing, but I don't wanna be wasteful in terms of money and the environment either here. A better one may cost 30 bucks more but last a lot longer with peace of mind

My Winix C545 died right after 2 year warranty. Luckily Costco allowed return. Wanted to try the Coway but Amazon ran out and canceled my order. I'll try 2x of these for the same price.

Hopefully they last. If not hopefully my CC warranty will cover. Still same price as some filter replacements.
I think you're going to be better of with the Coway Mighty. I have two and one Coway AirMega 400 and they've been problem-free for 5 years. Just before COVID is when I started using them and they're great.

I was not happy with Blueair's Blue models, though. I have the non-Auto ones and they seem to pick up dust on the prefilter but nothing really happens on the actual filter inside the machine. I get a year of basically-white filter on the Blueair in my clinic and I know the sheer amount of people walking in and out of there would require a filter change every three months instead of every 6 to 9 months

Hmm, the listing says nothing about filtering particles or dust.
The title says "For smoke and Odor".
This may really be missing a filter.

I agree but most of these reviews seem to be pointing to a real issue with the unit failing between 1-2 years. The company will replace them when still under warranty, but won't replace the replacement unit when it inevitably fails too. Sounds like bad capacitors and there's a YouTube video on how to repair it for a few bucks. For me, at this price and size of purifier, it's worth the shot especially if purchasing the WM extended warranty for $7. As others have stated, this unit is around the cost of replacement filters.
Precisely. My replacement unit quit abruptly, as had the original one, looks exactly like the one pictured. Refused to replace the replacement. I've never seen an air filter device fail, we've been using them for 30+ years.

I take it no one in this thread has seen any of the studies or reports where they compare a box fan with filters strapped to each side to these different high priced air purifiers. The box fans outperform the $400 air purifiers, and thats when they are only at 1 speed on the fan to account for people who think 2 or 3 speed on the box fan is tolerable.

They test all different circumstances and filters and level of filter. Basically these air purifier machine are a scam and have no effect on how clean your air gets after a certain point in time.

The only thing a high priced purifier does purifiers the air faster then a box fan filter. Which after the box fan filter catches up after the initial lag then there isn't a single difference. I know people have illnesses and are susceptible and thats not the cases im talking about.

im referring to the bored people who spend to much time trying to maximize every aspect of their life and fall into the capitalists conundrum... The more you make the more issues you come up with in order to throw money at them to stop/solve the issue and feel like youve done something.

This is no brainer price as it works quiet with good air volume moving for the price. Not too large, around side of air mega.

I've had one for years in bedroom still working even though touch panel letters wore off. I did have one DOE out of box that they replaced pretty easily.

I still prefer winix 5500 but that's $126 BF sale. That model runs quietest in auto vs my air mega 400 and all me to standardize what filters I use

I've seen/heard of these setups and frankly it just comes down to aesthetics. The DIY methods wouldn't be "wife approved" in my house. It would be relegated to the garage.

With regard to whether this is just throwing money at a nonissue - I can't say myself because we literally got our first purifiers this week. I'm hoping it makes a noticeable difference in indoor air quality for my family. Some of us have mild/moderate allergies, but nothing severe.

Had 2 units. The original and the warranty unit. They both died at about 12 months due to the panel becoming unresponsive. While they worked they were very nice though.

So buying a unit with the Walmart extended warranty seems like a no brainer. Even more so if you get the $50 ComEd rebate.

I used to have two of these, and both failed shortly after their warranties expired. They would only show faint lights and wouldn't power on. After some research, I found out the issue was related to the transformers inside the units, which can be replaced—but I wasn't about to go through that hassle. Stay away from this product unless you think $50 is worth investing in something that will fail within 1-2 years.

I have both the WiFi (old model) and non-wifi versions. I don't recommend the WiFi version because it refuses to work when the "smart" function fails. I forget the exact reason. I think it was because the wifi disconnects, and when you try to reconnect, it's very difficult to nearly impossible to rectify. The non-wifi, dumb version just works.

Can anyone confirm if the carbon filter has actual pellets or is the regular charcoal dipped foam? The pellets are much more legit for removing VOCs. The best ones use real charcoal blocks
Just received mine. It's a honeycomb-type filter with charcoal pellets in each of the hundreds of honeycomb sections. Plus a true HEPA filter

Mentions HEPA in a few places, like the video subtitle and in the filter info.
However, it also mentions MERV 16, which is not HEPA. Soo...
Just received mine. It is HEPA filter
