4GB on Chromebook in 2024... Would it struggle at some tasks? (I only have an 8GB Asus Chromebook so I don't know how it would go with only 4GB)
boasts impressive color and clarity... Oh man, TN and 45% NTSC and these descriptions don't go together, right Asus?
eMMC... Meaning you cannot upgrade the storage unless you plug in an external drive.
you can check if a model is supported before you get one.

8gb is great with chrome OS.
This was never worth the $299 list. Seems worth $110 though for light users and 1 task at a time users.

Basically, the process is that you need to disable the Chromebook's write protection first. This process varies depending on what processor you have. In earlier models, you just had to open it up and take off a designated write protection screw. In more modern devices you have to open it up, disconnect the battery, start up the machine, run some terminal commands to disable the write protection, then you can reconnect the battery. There are other variations, but those are the two I know of. After you disable write protection, you have to go into developer mode, bring up the terminal, run a couple commands, then the MrChromebox script. If you can follow directions well, it's easier than it sounds like. I would avoid most older tutorials because the process of which terminal to bring up in developer mode and what commands to make before running the script is different.
A couple further notes. Newer devices seem to have issues getting everything to function out of the box. I have a newer Acer CB that I could only get it to audio to play with an Arch or Fedora based distro. I did try an Ubuntu based (but not Ubuntu itself) distro and couldn't figure it out. I do have a Lenovo duet from 2020 which has similar specs 128 GB of storage but a similar media tech chipset. And only 4 GB of RAM. And if I'm coming from like a Android tablet or phone using an 865 or a Gen 2 or something it definitely feels slow but I don't think RAM is the bottleneck.
But you're not going to be able to find a gigabytes of RAM probably for a hundred bucks. You probably have to increase your budget to closer to 200 at that point. And then decide between like a super low end windows are used mid-range Chromebook or something.
I do wish they would release the Lenovo duet 5 with a little more power when they finally refresh it. They have the Snapdragon 7c9 but they never made a sequel to that.
