The bikes are a premium. Looks great but shocking cost. Especially if kids may outgrow them.
Are there other brands that are better than big box store bikes but not as costly?
Anyone have experience with these bikes? Are they worth the premium?

Tough to get bikes for kids that remain relevant after 2-3 years.

I have two bikes. Expensive but they are the best.

If you go the LBS route, I would try to find one in your area that offers lifetime tune ups which can be a $60-80/year value).
Code TINY10 worked for me last night for 10% discount on a bicycle. So buy the gift cards for 20% off then add this code when you buy the bike then apply gift cards to reduced price. Also Chase Freedom has 5% cash back on PayPal which you can use for purchases at Woom.

Most wally world and REI kids bikes are heavy. Could you imagine only weighing 40lbs and expecting to learn to ride a steel bike that's 20lbs? I'm 200lbs and that would be like learning to ride a bike that's 100lbs - that's insane.
I've bought several of these bikes for 200-250 used through different life stages and than resold them for about the 200-400.... overall making money on ownership of used ones. during the pandemic these were going for $700 new in resale market. Much better than a wally world bike you buy for $100 and can't get rid of and ends up in the garbage or donation bin. sadly, my last kid is on the last size of woom bikes before there are more choices out there and resale value drops significantly. woom bike used era is the best life stages for your kids where you will actually make money on your kids equipment.
