My old dishwasher ran fine for 20 years without using anything like this. Got a new dishwasher and after a month I got a warning to run a "cleaner" cycle. Does it really do anything or just gimmick to get us to spend on stuff that's not really necessary?

not sure about this particular but i have read reviews of finish liquid bottle which frequently comes on amazon at $1.7. I read that one does help with limescale/debris kind of stuff. although dish soap would be able to cut fat and other food particles but I assume over the months, it would collect few things around the walls just like shower door/bathtub are prone to soap scum.
