I paid retail. It's a cute set. Meant for younger kids. You can play a "board game" printed on of the flaps.

It's tough now with my 5 and 7 yo. They'd open it and the fun will last for less than 5 minutes. If you can get it at the Sam's price great, but I got it at Costco for about 30. I feel like the 8.99 SD magic kit advent I got for next year would be more entertaining.

Tbh. My kids have been opening these for years. And as they get older they have more fun with them. These mini builds can for some kids be more difficult than some of the larger builds with more clearly defined instruction books.
