Fyi, there are various compatibility issues for the android model. It states it's compatible with Android 12 and newer, but buried it says there are several (popular) chipsets that have various issues. I have experienced those issues with my Pixel 7 and 8 Pro.l and can no longer use it.

I bought this for personal use to check my home yearly. I found the resolution really disappointing. Topdon sells at a similar price point without the deal but with much better specs imo. With the deal it's more reasonable but I wouldn't prefer it.

No it's not good for people in the woods.
This along with all phone thermal units are designed for <10ft only. They use different sensors than those cheap hunting units that designed for detecting thermal signals further out.
Different products different purpose. These are great for electricians and professional users conducting inspections but NOT for hunting or surveillance.

Just buy a proper handheld standalone unit instead of these things, so much better.

I've been wanting one but haven't pulled the trigger on a phone adapter since it'll have a nearer end of life that relies on my phone and app support. For that reason, I'm out.

I've had a Hikmicro E1L for a few years. I brought it deer hunting with me this year to see if it would help tracking a wounded deer. Didn't get a chance to try that but I did test it while I was hunting. I was able to "see" deer at 70-80 yards. They were only little dots on the screen but it did pick up their thermal signature. Not real practical but it did help me pick up a deer that I did not initially see visually.

But no, you're not going to be able to make out what animal it is. The only thing that would put out a big enough heat signature at a longer distance is a deer for me (barring some random dog maybe). I could see squirrels on it at 30 yards still though.

I still think they'd be helpful for tracking wounded animals but I haven't been able to confirm that yet.

Would this work on capturing the thermal imaging of the UFOs flying around the NorthEast skies?

Wouldn't it be better to get an app for your phone? It's about the same price and I would assume it includes updates.
Oh Tami, oh Tami good morning to you.

I think it would be more beneficial to catch unicorns and rainbows Tami 🤣 On a serious note the apps you are mentioning are fake. I don't think any smartphone camera in 2024 has heat sensors. You can't just add thermal sensors to a camera via an app, the phone needs to be equipped with sensors to do it. All the thermal sensor apps you see are rip offs as that is not possible without the proper hardware.

I have the same problem with a Seek Thermal I bought a few years ago. I ended up getting a stand alone device for about $400 that is just much better resolution and field of view.

Half the time I plug the Seek in, it doesn't recognize it. It's slow. Sometimes it just disconnects. I had to buy a USBC extension just to use it with my case. (I have all these problems without the adapter too). I imagine someday it'll probably stop working all together with whatever phone I have--a problem my standalone will never have

If it is $99, I would bite. But at $149, there are lots of IR camera with higher resolutions.

Does the usb c version work with the iPhone 15+? I'm assuming not but wanted to ask
It will with the Apple OEM USB-C to Lightning adapter. Although then the camera hangs down from the phone several inches and it takes two hands.

Got one of these (Android USB-C) and used it around the house for a while, then one of their app updates pretty much made it a paper weight. It just tries to connect to the camera forever in perpetuity.

Tempted, but my older generation maybe lasted about 10 hours of total usage before the battery stopped holding a charge for more than 10 minutes.

Oh, but I will say that I used this thing with varying success to locate a possum that crawled into my attic and if you're chasing an engine cooling issue, it's also a handy device. The quality of this product just kind of sucks.
