Fyi, there are various compatibility issues for the android model. It states it's compatible with Android 12 and newer, but buried it says there are several (popular) chipsets that have various issues. I have experienced those issues with my Pixel 7 and 8 Pro.l and can no longer use it.

I bought this for personal use to check my home yearly. I found the resolution really disappointing. Topdon sells at a similar price point without the deal but with much better specs imo. With the deal it's more reasonable but I wouldn't prefer it.

No it's not good for people in the woods.
This along with all phone thermal units are designed for <10ft only. They use different sensors than those cheap hunting units that designed for detecting thermal signals further out.
Different products different purpose. These are great for electricians and professional users conducting inspections but NOT for hunting or surveillance.

I bought this device a few years ago for $179, and it's really helped with discovering drafts and if blown insulation has shifted in my house. It was well worth it as I think I've save money from heating bills. Yes, the resolution is not great, but what do I care? I just want to know where the drafts are!
I was able to get something like this from my library:

Understand it shows a picture with a heat map, but is it that much better over a $20 IR heat sensor? For the casual homeowner of course.

How about ghost hunting?
friend of mine has a thermal master p2 pro and can detect animals at 100ft with no issue. so no, "all phone thermal nuts" are not designed for < $10ft.

I'm a visual guy, so the picture works for me! LOL.

More than that, they are great for anyone.

You can use them as a stud finder, you can find leaks in your home and address them, you can find very hot vampire devices and put them on a smart switch, you can find where pipes are leaking, you can run water through a pipe and find where pipes are when hanging shelves so you don't drill right into some PVC, etc.

They are in fact so sensitive that if you walk around barefoot on tile and turn around, you can trace back your footsteps.

I looked at the topdon camera and their terms, which you have to accept, seemed outrageous. Although it has higher res, I am not going to plug it to my daily phone. If you have a dedicated junk phone, that should work out ok. Even their app permission list is much larger than flir.
I got the flir today and it works ok with my S24U, sure higher res would be better but not going to make any compromise on my data.

I passed on this and went with Topdon. I am pleased with it so far.
I did too but it's not as useful as I thought. For example I could not see running water. Not sure if it's due to the camera or not.

I have a FLIROne from 2014.

It was made for the iPhone 5, which is no longer compatible with cell service these days.

It is low res and the app is a bit clunky, but it does the job around the home.

I've used it to see where insulation was missing in ceilings, at night outside you can see rocks giving off heat they absorbed during the day. You can even see where the cat was sitting on the couch a couple minutes after she got down.

The creepiest thing was walking around my house with the lights off. Walking into the kitchen in pitch black, and seeing someone moving around in there as I walked in. It was my reflection in the stainless steel refrigerator door across the room.

I've got one of the original Flir Ones that I have used with all of my Pixel phones to my current P9 Pro XL. What did they screw up on the newer models that they got right with the OG model?!? I use mine a couple of times a week and I love it more than a stoner who find his stash bag empty loves discovering there's still some weed left in the grinder.. The one problem I have is that I had to buy 5 different micro USB to USB C adapters before finally getting the right now.

Came here to say this. The real SD is paying nothing and checking out the camera as needed from your library!

First time these have been $150 according to tres camels, average price is $209.

Good for those that live not in a city, but in the woods, or mechanics, electricians, of curious people that don't have better things to spend their money on

What category should I list this as?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0728C7KND
If I was still working as an Certified auto tech I would be all over this at this price. Flir is the best in the business as far as these type of cameras go.

Reflections give off heat??
