Price has been lower at Best Buy multiple times throughout the year.
Not by much though and this is still a solid price...Lowest price for new was $679 I think.

At both $679 and $700 quite a few times and for quite a while the last few months.

Are there any good inexpensive 14in laptops with this kind of battery? Cheaper than a ROG G14, for example
Not exactly "cheap" but you get a lot of bang for buck. This has 32 gigs of ram and a 1 tb ssd and an OLED. You don't need to upgrade (unless its just the SSD). 32 gigs is essential IMO going into 2025. All the other machines will need you to pop them open and add ram (costs around 80 to 90 usd on sale, if it isn't soldered). At 14in you're well into "premium" territory. If I could afford it, I would get this.

Have done a lot of research on this model: the 7700s performs slightly better than the 4060 and slightly worse than the 4070. All in all, this is a superb machine for the money. It also has Apple Macbook Air levels of battery life when not gaming.
I believe you, but I am looking for a laptop and this one is outside my budget. My graphics card website puts this slower than the 4060. (I heard bad things about the site I use and would rather have a better source). What is your source?

If you're using UserBenchmark it has an incredible hatred of anything AMD related and therefore cannot be trusted to be unbiased.

Bought this at $679.99 in Aug. The RX 7700S has great performance on most PC games I've tried out.

I usually find the most accurate results from comparing YouTube benchmarks and gameplay tests. Even TechPowerUp which is the recommended website for comparing GPUs has things wrong a lot, especially with Mobile chips where stuff like power limits and thermals can create inconsistent performance. Of course never go to UserSkidmark.

My son bought this laptop in a previous sale a few months ago.

We added another SSD to it and it was super easy. Just take the bottom cover off.

Dual RAM slots are there and filled with 2 8GB sticks from the factory. If you plan to upgrade, you'll need to replace the 16GB it comes with.

Is the 7ms response rate typical in this class? That would be well below standard for a desktop monitor, but I don't think I've ever looked closely at response time on a laptop, just refresh rate (which is pretty good at 165 on this one). Considering buying this as a Christmas gift for a gamer but don't want to cheap out on screen performance.

I remember the youtuber's saying basically users will need to evaluate the entire system to know for sure how good a processor is.BUT youtubers are also known for making a big deal out of a cooler that cools %2 better and failing to mentionen how (most of us) won't reapply thermal paste every year, much less clean or top off water cooling rig every year.

I am guiltily I may be using the carbon sheet to cool my CPU but 5 years from The day I put it on it will still be as good as it was the day I installed it.

This guy is one of the biggest laptop reviewers on YT:

Skip to the game comparison part. He's tested best case and worst case scenarios.
