What's the advantage of these over a $7-$19 heated coasters that can keep warm any flat bottomed mug or cup? The electronics in these make it impossible to microwave or wash in the dishwasher.

They keep the drink warm a lot longer.
They don't make the mug itself hot.
They warm up a lot more quickly.
You can set the temperature precisely.
You can walk away with your mug and it will keep it warm for ~1 hour off the coaster.

I got the 10 oz mug. Don't make the same mistake I did get the 14 oz!

I love my ember mug. I have one at home and one at my office. It's nice having a coffee at the precise temperature you want (I have a charging coaster at my home/office desk). I can just casually drink my coffee through the day instead of having to down it in the narrow window where it's cool enough to drink without being too cold.

I don't have the travel version, but what I'll do before I hit the road, set the mug a few degrees higher than my target temperature and then load it in my thermos for the car.

I got the 14oz mug Factory Reconditioned from Woot three months ago for $56.99 so this is $2 cheaper. I got the white and it looked brand new (no stains). So far so good.

To anyone considering this, get the Costco $80 deal for 14oz and try it out. Return it back if you don't like it. Someone else going to get a nice cheap refurb off of yours. I like mine and I love the concept but not being able to dishwash it and 14oz not being enough is leaning me to returning mine.

Ive had bad luck with these. The first one just stopped functioning. They replaced it under warranty and the second one did the same thing after a couple of months. I gave up on it.

Does it keep all the liquid warm? I have a cheap version that only warms the bottom so the top is always cold.

Does it heat the whole cup? Or just the bottom

It heats from inside on the bottom. Mug is cool to the touch and the coffee is at whatever temperature you set it at.

Wife loves them but only get 2 years max of them. The pogo pins on the coaster are the first to go, the battery doesn't hold a charge after 2 years of daily use, and sometimes they go into a blinking lights of death mode that you can't fix. All covered by warranty if you're at least close to inside the period. My insulated coffee cups do just as well for me if I use the lid.

I also have up on these and then moved to cheaper contigo street ville mugs . Yes they don't keep the drink hot as long as ember but still plenty enough to slowly enjoy your coffee.
