The tax code should be simple and fair to MOST people. Why should taxpayers subsidize credits and deductions?
Intuit's greedy mentality will cost the company $ in the long run. I don't see any major issue with H&R, even with stocks and real estate transactions.
So we're clear, the Inflation Reduction Act contained a bunch of funding for the IRS, which was going to be revenue positive, and also was creating a free filing system, which had been rolled out to certain states last year, and is due to be expanded this year. If it isn't rolled out nationally shortly, it will be due to the person currently taking office. The Biden FTC had also sued TurboTax for fraudulently not allowing people who were eligible for free filing to do so.
Also, I noted the terms on Chase Web site that states... "*Must make purchase from turbotax.com/affiliate/chase42"
If you go here, you lose the Fidelity discount, and the discount drop to 10%.

You need to click "Do It Yourself" at the top, then choose "Doing Taxes with Desktop Software", then you can purchase for download.

With regard to free federal filing, the options from the IRS aren't for everyone, but they do cover A LOT of people. Additionally, FreeTaxUSA, OLT, Cash App all have free federal filing without income limits and covering almost all individual tax situations.
