Apparently it's possible to increase brightness to 1000 nits with software, it was software limited to 600 for battery life. The apps are called Vivid or BetterDisplay

Local costco showed a bunch in stock in the app last night, but none this morning. Price matched to BB on the first try. Ended up using a $1200 gift card I received yesterday from a geek squad claim on our TV. Upgrading from a M1 Air 8gb/256gb.

The $1,400 M4 MacBook Pro does NOT have Thunderbolt 5. The M4 Pro MacBook Pro does which is currently selling for $1,900 at Best Buy.

The M4 Pro you linked is obviously better, but if it was my money being spent, I'd consider the M3 Pro version for $1250 to be the way to go.

There are multiple Costco around me with this one in stock but I don't know if I should go with this one or the 16" M2 Pro Refurbished from Microcenter for $1399. I do utilize the bigger screen despite the weight ...

Couple of other things to note - M3 Pro has an extra 2GB of RAM and the drive speed in the M3 Pro is faster than the M4. Honestly for the average user it's a coin toss. I also went with this deal since it was cheaper. This is the cheapest I've ever seen a new M series MacBook Pro on sale for

Great price. I just got the M4 Pro MacBook Pro during the Black Friday sales. It's easily the best laptop I've ever owned however, the M3 pro MacBook Pro is probably 95% of the current generation in all ways unless you're really, really pushing the CPU and GPU. I wish I would have been able to get this deal on this M3 version. Saving 500 bucks would've been well worth it.
